Aarhus / Denmark

Aarhus, the city with nearly 300,000 inhabitants, is located on the east coast of the Danish mainland. Århus has a university and a major seaport. Historically, the town was founded as a Viking settlement and was episcopal see in the early Middle Ages. From the Middle Ages also originate some important attractions of the city. In the 16th century Århus experienced the upswing as a commercial and port city.

Interesting in terms of religious buildings are of course the Cathedral of Aarhus from the 13th century with an interesting altar and the St.Mary's Church with crypt. The open-air museum Den Gamle By still shows some of the old half-timbered houses that are otherwise only too scanty to see in the center of the townas well as small town life lovingly put together. Otherwise, the modern town hall with its bell tower can be visited as well as the Moesgård Museum where you can see a 2,000 -year-old bog body.
For relaxation provides either  the botanical garden or the University Park north of the city. In the latter, there are also two lakes. As university city Århus has a high density of pubs and some jazz clubs.
