The cruise line: concept and philosophy

A-ROSA stands for unique river cruises on the most popular waterways in Europe. Whether the romantic Rhine, vineyards around the Moselle, the majestic Danube or the historic Seine - every route offers unforgettable panoramas and exciting shore excursions in charming towns and picturesque landscapes.

In 2002, the Deutsche Seereederei (DSR) and the British cruise line P&O merged. The resulting company Seetours chose A-ROSA as its brand name and specialized in river cruises. The first two new ships, A-ROSA BELLA and A-ROSA DONNA, undertook river cruises on the Danube and thus heralded the long-term cruise success of the Rostock-based provider. The family of ships and river cruise routes grew continuously; the distinguishing feature of the friendly A-ROSA fleet was from then on the kiss mouth with the rose on the bow. Flagship A-ROSA SENA has led the fleet since 2022. The brand new E-Motion Ship is equipped with modern technology and, with the help of innovative living and leisure concepts, represents an attractive holiday alternative for families with children.

Für A-ROSA fahren aktuell 15 Schiffe auf Europas schönsten Flüssen. Angeführt vom innovativen Flaggschiff A-ROSA SENA gehören zur Flotte:

City, country, river: destinations and routes

A river cruise is the perfect city break: no annoying packing of suitcases, the perfect accommodation always travels with you and you can discover Europe's cities from a completely new perspective. What do Amsterdam, Vienna, Budapest, Strasbourg and Lyon have in common? They all lie on powerful European rivers. And it is thanks to this fact that we are lucky enough to be able to travel to these and so many other fascinating cities by ship. While you are still admiring the panorama from the sun deck of the ship, your thoughts wander to what could await you: famous sights, world-famous museums, original shops and boutiques, the hustle and bustle of large squares or the mysterious silence of unknown corners. All of this can be discovered and explored in a very short distance. On your own or on an organized excursion, for example on the minivan tour through Budapest. In the evening, exciting restaurants invite you to dinner or theaters with their large and small stages offer a show. In many river metropolises, large opera houses are waiting to seduce you with Mozart, Verdi and Rossini.

Accommodation: cabins and suites
A-ROSA wants its guests to feel at home and has created the ideal retreats for this purpose.
You can therefore open the door of your cabin or suite on one of the A-ROSA ships with confidence, knowing that a surprisingly spacious, light-filled room with modern yet solid furnishings awaits you. The bed is much more than just a bunk – it's a truly comfortable "river bed."

The personal feeling of home in the cabins: cozy, modern design, and plenty of space
Like all spaces aboard the A-ROSA fleet, the accommodations truly invite you to relax and unwind. As befits sleek river ships, only outside cabins measuring 14.5 to 16.5 square meters are offered – most of them equipped with a French balcony where you can enjoy the beauty of the riverbanks in private surroundings. The furnishings impress with their elegant design and fine materials, as well as the high-quality amenities including a flat-screen TV, shower, and much more.

The Suites: Home Suit Home!
While the classic cabins are already highly popular with guests, the suites are described as "simply stunning" and "magnificent" according to guest reviews.
This isn't really surprising, given the amenities offered. Where else can you store your clothes in a walk-in closet, for example? As a resident of the A-ROSA Suites, you and your clothes share a lot of space, usually between 21 and 29 square meters. You should always step out onto the associated balconies together – you and your clothes. Even if the privacy screen from your neighbors is quite effective.

The well-stocked minibar ensures refreshment and a good mood. And those who want to take comfort to the extreme can even treat themselves to their own butler. More of that? Of course! Guests who book the all-inclusive A-ROSA Premium all-inclusive rate in a Junior or Balcony Suite in Category E or F enjoy complimentary additional services. Check-in and a personal greeting with welcome champagne from 12 noon, a suite cocktail with the ship management, room service from 07.00. to 22.00, a free minibar, various magazines, fresh flowers and fresh fruit daily are all included, as are additional cabin amenities and high-quality branded bathroom amenities, laundry and ironing service and, last but not least, the already mentioned butler service.

Gastronomy: about meals, included services, restaurants and beverages

The culinary program has always been a top priority on the ships of the A-ROSA fleet. In the advertising jargon of marketing copywriters, one might say: excellent food is part of A-ROSA's DNA. In any case, the onboard kitchen is committed to always providing a culinary delight for every taste. The focus is on dishes prepared with fresh ingredients and to perfection, which simply demonstrate the love of cooking. Changing buffets offer a selection of numerous dishes, so there's always something to suit everyone. And if, contrary to expectations, there's not something to suit your taste, simply test the onboard chefs' improvisational talent during live cooking. Or enjoy service that always sets standards and sit down at A-ROSA Dining for an elaborate 4-course menu, where just a glance at the menu tells you you're not on the wrong track.

The bar, however, presents a real luxury dilemma: what to choose? The selection of drinks is enormous. Cocktails with exotic names vie for your attention, as do sophisticated long drinks and fine sparkling wines. Luckily, a friendly and experienced bartender is at your side and will happily introduce you to a Tequila Sunrise, a Mai Tai, or even a lesser-known concoction. It goes without saying that he is also well-versed in the brandies and grappas of the world. And as the evening progresses, he will explain to you that Irish whiskeys and Scottish whiskeys can be identified by the "e," or rather, its absence.

A-ROSA Gourmet Cruises: send your palate on a culinary journey of discovery

When it comes to cruises and the senses, the first thing that comes to mind is the eyes, whose gaze wanders over horizons and shores. And the nose, which catches the breeze. But an A-ROSA cruise is enjoyed with all the senses. That's precisely why A-ROSA gourmet cruises are designed for the adventurous palate – and thus for anyone with a taste for the finest dishes and exquisite wines. Renowned Michelin-starred chefs and top-class sommeliers find the refined ambiance of the A-ROSA ship restaurants an ideal environment for offering culinary excellence. Your palate will thus travel to the world of top-class gastronomy, and you yourself will be transported to a realm of delicious refinement. The A-ROSA chefs will not only cook exquisite meals for you, they will also let you in on many secrets of creative culinary art – and the wine experts will teach you how a small, inconspicuous grape can become a magnificent taste experience.

This is what the Rhône regions taste like
In the cuisine of southern France, for example, regional influences from Provence, the Basque Country, Catalonia, and Corsica combine like a melting pot to create a brilliant fusion of fantastic flavors and essences.
To enjoy this culinary revelation, you're in the best hands aboard the A-ROSA LUNA. On the RHÔNE ROUTE GOURMET themed cruise, the top-class guest chefs are intimately familiar with Mediterranean cuisine and transform their market-fresh purchases into true masterpieces.

Or treat yourself to this riot of colors and smells. The vibrant hustle and bustle of the picturesque markets is always worth a visit. The air is filled with the scent of spicy herbs, delicate lavender, or ripe citrus fruits, the cheese lady happily hands out samples, and the Corsican salami is so fresh that you can still hear the donkey braying – according to Asterix. In France, the earth and sun give their best: Along the Rhône, for example, they produce world-renowned vines. So there are countless good reasons for a dinner on deck!

Experience gourmet chefs on the Rhine and Moselle
Many delicacies await you on the Rhine and Moselle as well.
Imagine it something like this: You're enjoying a digestif or a steaming espresso, you're satiated and content, looking out the panoramic window at the passing landscapes, and you decide to take a short walk on deck to help digest it before the comfortable bed in your cabin whisks you away to blissful dreams. A little exercise won't hurt, though, because you've just enjoyed a remarkable gourmet dinner from one of the A-ROSA fleet's top guest chefs. Absolutely delicious! So delicious, in fact, that you've eaten more than you actually intended. While strolling in the balmy summer air, your taste buds relive the components of the individual courses, and anticipation for a sequel begins to grow within you. It's good to know that two more gourmet dinners and many other culinary highlights will follow on this cruise.

The regions along the Rhine and Moselle are rich in famous
specialties, yet the cuisine on cruises in this region still holds some incomparable culinary surprises and moments in store, even for well-traveled connoisseurs. Enchanting river landscapes complement the culinary delights, as do the exquisite wines that mature to world renown on the steep slopes to the left and right. For 1,600 hours a year, the sun shines on the Moselle Valley, praised even by the Romans and home to the finest Riesling wines. Could there be a more sophisticated accompaniment to dinner?
Leisure time on board

Whether active offers or pure relaxation: Aboard A-ROSA ships, there are numerous ways to spend your day as you wish. Depending on the ship, the outdoor pool with counter-current system or the modern fitness room invites you to work out, while the sun deck offers perfect conditions for a game of shuffleboard or chess. Those who prefer to track their steps on land can choose from a variety of guided bike tours while discovering impressive landscapes and vibrant cities. Socializing is also very important on board: New acquaintances are often formed during shared activities such as small golf tournaments, dance evenings, quizzes, or relaxed conversations at the bar. And after an eventful day, the exquisite cuisine provides culinary highlights that perfectly round off a vacation on an A-ROSA ship.
Sports and wellness
Sports enthusiasts will get their money's worth in the modern fitness area. Whether it's intensive strength training or a gentle endurance program, exercise becomes a pleasure here. Anyone who thinks the sun deck is all about sunbathing is wrong. Anyone who wants to can get really active here. For example, pick up a golf club and try your luck on the challenging mini-course. Or test your luck and skill in a classic game of shuffleboard, where you're sure to quickly find a few other players. Skill and an understanding of tactics are also required when it comes to beating your opponent in deck chess. If your king is checkmated first, you can always give your conqueror a soak in the ship's pool. Although it's more intended for swimming and relaxing on the water.

Are there sports equipment or fitness rooms on the A-ROSA ships?
Anyone who still has surplus energy can work out in the well-equipped fitness room.
There, you can train your endurance and strength on modern equipment, supported by trained staff who are happy to accommodate your training needs at any time. Still not exhausted? Then hop on your bike! The planned bike tours will not only get you sweating, but also take you to places off the beaten track. As you can see, there's more than enough to do for those who can't get enough exercise.

SPA and wellness & eelaxation: what are the offers at SPA-ROSA?
When we talk about relaxing souls, you already know it's all about wellness and relaxation.
On board the A-ROSA fleet, you quickly get the impression that the ships were built exclusively for this purpose. The routes are short, and the offerings are extensive – as a guest, you have little to do other than put on your bathrobe and immediately indulge in pampering. For example, start your day in the panoramic sauna and relax as the river landscapes pass by in pleasant temperatures. Everything on board is designed for your perfect recovery.

An essential part of the A-ROSA philosophy is to revitalize your energy flow and send you back to everyday life at the end of your journey with renewed vitality and inspiration. Relax with massages using precious oils and essences or with facial treatments that act like an invigorating fountain of youth. And enjoy beauty treatments that will make you glow not only on the outside. All wellness products used on board come exclusively from the German quality brand BABOR and the Caribbean brand Ligne ST BARTH. Because when it comes to quality, A-ROSA never compromises.

SPA-ROSA: in the flow of relaxation
The central theme of the SPA-ROSA philosophy is the gentle flow of energy.
Sustainability, health, and individuality should be your constant companions on the journey into your body. Regional products or the exotic, enchanting scents of the Caribbean will pamper all your senses. Depending on your personal situation, the unique treatments developed by A-ROSA offer either deep relaxation and intense well-being or active recovery during an exercise program specially designed for you. You'll recognize the success of this concept when you'll be told, "You look so refreshed!" long after your vacation.

Trotz ihrer schlanken Größe beherbergen manche A-ROSA Flusskreuzfahrtschiffe einen Whirlpool oder auch einen Swimmingpool, der zum Erfrischen und je nach Größe zum Bahnen schwimmen einlädt.

A-ROSA family cruises with children

"Do A-ROSA river cruises actually work with children?", many parents wonder when it comes to planning their vacation. Yes - and how! More and more families with children and young people are looking for alternatives to conventional package cruises. With the family-friendly A-ROSA river cruises, city cruises can be made completely relaxed for everyone involved. All family members, whether parents, children or grandparents, benefit from a varied cruise program, professional childcare and a relaxed way of traveling on the special family cruises.
What does it mean to go on a river cruise with the family on one of the A-ROSA ships? Specifically: lots of fun and action for children and young people as well as plenty of relaxation opportunities for parents. But there is still plenty of intensive family time.

The A-ROSA Kids Club: colorful entertainment program for children and young people
While mom and dad take a break in the wellness area or just chat quietly over a coffee on deck, the kids turn the ship into their very own adventure playground.
Whether it's craft activities, games with popular classics or a children's disco: the childcare offers a wide range of activities for different age groups. When exactly does the care take place? During the Easter, summer and autumn holidays, highly trained and experienced children's entertainers look after the needs of the little river pirates aged 4 to 15 up to three times a day. Knowing this, parents can relax with a clear conscience while their children get to know the pleasant side of life on board in a playful way. Would you like more examples of how A-ROSA organizes the lives of children and young people aboard its ships? In addition to the particularly popular ship rally, children and youth shows, the make-up studio, sports and fun or simply fun board games provide varied entertainment. Things are more artistic at the T-shirt stamp studio or at the creative studio with colorful painting and craft activities or film and photo activities. The absolute highlight of every cruise is Pirate Day, which no child should miss. And because adventures make you hungry, at the end of the day, tried and tested favorite dishes as well as new creations await the little gourmets, served at the family table of course. At that point, big and small adventurers meet again and tell each other about the exciting experiences of the day.

Partly free of charge: fair pricing and discounts for children up to 15 years old
What are the other advantages of a family cruise with A-ROSA? Under certain conditions (applies to cruises on the Rhine, Danube, Rhône and Saône and Seine), children up to the age of 15 travel free of charge. They must be accompanied by at least one adult with supervision in the booked cabin on deck 1. For accommodation in cabins on deck 2, A-ROSA offers a 30 percent discount. On the A-ROSA SENA, children up to 7 years old can use the sofa bed in the cabins in categories B, C and D free of charge, provided they are accompanied by two adults with supervision.

Ideas for family-friendly river cruises during Advent on the Danube and Rhine
Would you like to spend the Advent and Christmas holidays completely differently? How about a Danube cruise for 4 or 5 nights from Engelhartszell (Passau) via Vienna, Bratislava and Melk in 2023? But the river cruise on the Rhine towards the Netherlands or the tour to Mainz, Koblenz and Strasbourg are also promising candidates for a cruise during the most contemplative time of the year. A-ROSA has thought not only of the tranquil holidays for families, but also of New Year's Eve.

Tip: do you have any questions about occupancy options with children? The team at kreuzfahrten.de will gladly help you. The offers are limited due to increasing demand and availability.

Excursion program: shore excursions on the A-ROSA river cruises

Collect valuable holiday memories on shore excursions

Whether it's beautiful landscapes, picturesque towns or vibrant metropolises - there's always something to discover on the banks of large rivers. So: get ready for shore excursions! What options do passengers have? You can explore the destinations on your own or join the organized excursions. In this case, cruising with A-ROSA once again presents you with the tricky task: what should you choose? Because the choice is huge. How about a discovery tour where you get to know the city better?

Or you can set off on a bike tour - one of the best ways to discover the area for yourself and do something for yourself at the same time. The same applies, although not quite as sporty, to the gourmet tours on offer, where you can sample the specialties of regional winemakers, farmers and kitchens. These are usually great experiences for singles or couples, but why not try it in a group? It is always amazing and wonderful to see how quickly common interests bring people together, so that casual holiday acquaintances can even become friends for life. But no matter which excursion option you ultimately choose, it will be interesting and entertaining in any case.

The A-ROSA excursion packages
Ride the bike through vineyards or would you rather attend an opera?
The online catalog offers a good overview of all shore excursions for every taste. A program of all tours is also included in the travel documents. As diverse as the range of offers may be, all excursions are similar in some important points: All shore excursions are planned by local agencies, A-ROSA only arranges them. A list of agencies can be viewed online or on board. Reservations for certain excursions can be made online in advance. The excursions are then booked, confirmed and settled on board during the cruise. As usual, the programs are usually subject to change if changes are necessary. How much do the organized shore excursions cost when cruising with the A-ROSA cruise line? There are no standard prices. The costs depend on the duration of the excursion, transfer and the various program items.

The A-ROSA bike packages
The combination of river cruises and bike tours is also very popular.
Thanks to the cooperation with Terranova, the market leader for bike tours, you can really let off steam on one of the exciting bike tours along the Rhône, the Rhine, the Danube or the Seine. Since 2021, the excursions have been taking place by modern e-bikes. The bikes are touring bikes with the best equipment. For safety reasons, the bike tours are accompanied by a minibus with a bike trailer. A local tour guide is also there who provides all kinds of interesting information about the country and its people. Other services include - if necessary - transfers by bus or taxi as well as picnics and drink breaks.

Attention: Terranova’s e-bike excursions can only be booked at the all-inclusive “Premium all inclusive” price.

Mobility and accessibility

Unfortunately, the A-ROSA ships currently do not have any barrier-free cabins. On the Rhine ships A-ROSA AQUA and A-ROSA BRAVA, cabin no. 224 is suitable for travelers with limited mobility. Important note: When booking the basic price, however, allocation of this cabin cannot be guaranteed. The entire A-ROSA fleet has stairs, which can result in restrictions. Currently, only the A-ROSA ALVA has a passenger elevator between deck 1 and deck 3; the sun deck can only be reached via stairs.

Reviews and testimonials

Several factors show that the cruise lines high standards are falling on fertile ground.
If you look at travel reports and guest reviews in the travel forum for river cruises, for example, this reflects a reward for above-average efforts in the vast majority of cases. In the kreuzfahrten.de review forum, the cruise line regularly receives top marks and is usually awarded the maximum possible number of five steering wheels. "I would even give it a plus," reports one guest who traveled on the Rhône and Saône with the A-ROSA STELLA. "The staff are very attentive, very polite and friendly. Although they come from other countries, there were no language difficulties."

Access to additional information
In addition to printed information, which can also be requested in writing, the kreuzfahrten.de website in particular offers more details about the cruise program on offer.
There you will find, for example, a clear deck plan for each ship of the A-ROSA fleet, as well as informative photos of the cabins and suites. If you want to stay up to date, you can also sign up for the “Cruiseletter” newsletter at kreuzfahrten.de and be sure to be informed about most offers in a timely manner.

Nevertheless, it is advisable to regularly look at the actual website, because it is there that you will find daily deals and last-minute offers for cruises  - some of which include flights. And the respective A-ROSA recommendation of the week can also be found here. Also recommended: take a look at the reviews on the publicly accessible travel portals, in which former guests describe the eventful moments, the first-class service and the well-equipped ships. Perhaps you will soon immortalize yourself there with your very own view of the experiences of an A-ROSA river cruise.

Which languages are spoken on board?

The onboard languages offered vary depending on the cruise line. In addition to the German cruise lines AIDA, TUI Cruises and PHOENIX, cruise lines such as Costa and MSC also offer German-speaking contact persons and shore excursions. The onboard languages offered are usually specified in the travel advertisement. There is also the option of filtering according to a desired language.

Do you travel alone? With the whole family? Do you prefer the big adventure in nature or do you want to be entertained as well? There is a suitable lid for every pot - and that's just the same with cruises: apart from a variety of routes, the various cruise lines also show their own individual orientations.

If you are traveling alone, a single cabin will be important to you. Only a few cruise lines offer pure single cabins, usually a single cabin surcharge is calculated for the double cabin used alone. You will find what you are looking for on Norwegian Cruse Line, the cruise line offers extra single cabins. You may also find offers without extra charge at Hapag Lloyd Cruises or at Royal Caribbean.

Whether baby, toddler or teen - on a journey with children different requirements apply than on a cruise alone or in pairs. So the little ones want to be active. If you are planning a family cruise, make sure that there is an entertainment program for children. For example, AIDA Cruises or Costa Cruises are very child-friendly. But also many other cruise lines have specialized on the smallest guests, worthwhile here is an individual consultation with kreuzfahrten.de.

And as far as entertainment and shore excursions are concerned, cruises are as varied as a journey can be. If you do not want 24-hour entertainment, you will surely choose a different ship than the one who expects a selection of great shows, possibly several a day. We are happy to help you in your search for the right ship!
