Al-Fujayrah / United Arab Emirates

Fudschaira features an international airport, which is a cargo-airport only which is why air-travellers have to use the airport of another emirate. The emirate Al Fujayrah has a strategical significance for the federation, as it is located in the Indian Ocean. During the fights in the Golf War, more and more ships unloaded in the harbour of Al Fujayrah, because the entrance into the waters of the golf was to dangerous. The beach does not invite for bathing, because large parts are polluted with tar. Although the relationship of the seven sheikdoms is determined through century old rivalry, tribe-feud and border-disputes, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ash Shariqah, Al Fujayrah, Umm al Qaywayn and Ajman joined together as a federation in 1971 during the British exit. Large oil-findings brought the competitive sheiks together.
