The St. Bartholomeus church, first mentioned in 1260, belongs to the largest churches in the Pomeranian area. The religious building is a three-nave, rib-vaulted Gothic brick hall church. The church was damaged several times but rebuilt again and again. It was completely destroyed in 1676 during the great city fire. The most impressive and important result of the renewal is the 92.5 -m- tower, made entirely of bricks. With this tower Demmin owns one of the most interesting monuments of the 19th century. In the more than 100-year-old water tower there is an observatory today. The "Luisentor" is the only remaining of formerly 4 gates and 27 towers.
