Deventer / Netherlands

How much trade has blossomed between the years 1100 and 1500, still show today the many historic buildings along the Ijssel. The youngest area of the historical Deventer is located on a small hill on the outskirts of the old town "Bergkwatier" with the Nicolaaskerk. This area was first settled in the twelfth century, as Deventer kept growing and kept growing away from the river.
The book market on the IJssel Shore (Onder de Linden / Wellepad) extends on the first Sunday in August over a length of 2.5 kilometers and is  with more than 250 merchants the largest in the Netherlands. The dilapidated houses from the 16th to the 18th centuries are now restored. Today the Bergkwartier is Deventer's favorite neighborhood.
