Dijon is a city in eastern France with a population of 150,000. It is the capital of the department of Côte-d'Or and of the historical capital of Burgundy. Through the city flows the Ouche, moreover it lies on the Burgundy Canal that connects the city with the Saône. The earliest finds from the region of today's city date back to the Iron Age. The Romans built the little camp on the Via Agrippa and called it Divio, Diviodunum, Divionum or Castrum divionense. The city was later the seat of the Dukes of Burgundy. Today, Dijon is a not insignificant transportation, commercial and industrial center and the seat of the  Université de Bourgogne founded in 1722. The city is famous worldwide for its mustard and an important trading center for Burgundy wines.

Stroll along the Rue de la Liberté towards Place de la Libération and turn a left hand in the old town. The Palace of Justice from the 15th and 16th century was originally the parliamentary seat of Burgundy. You should also visit the Cathédrale Saint-Bénigne from the 14th century, and the Notre Dame church, which was built 1229-1250 in the style of Burgundian Gothic. The latter houses a Black Madonna. Just outside the town, along the canal, are the remains of the Charterhouse of Champmol. Among others have been preserved the Moses Fountain and the famous sculptures and the chapel door of Claus Sluter, a Flemish Gothic sculptor. If you follow the channel on, you come to Lac Chanoine Kir. This reservoir was created in 1964 and named after the then mayor. Today it represents an important recreational area of ​​the city.
