With its 80,000 inhabitants Esbjerg is the sixth largest city in Denmark and the most important North Sea port in the country. The port lies at the northernmost corner of the Wadden Sea.When Esbjerg was founded in the time of industrialization, they built the city in the style of historicism. From this period you can see during a stroll some pretty buildings: for example, the train station and the building on the market square.From the year 1891 is the courthouse which now houses the Tourist Office and the local police. Esbjerg offers for early birds a fish auction in the huge fish market on the quayside. Another attraction is the Fisheries and Maritime Museum with a seal quarium. For beach lovers Esbjerg serves as a springboard to the resort island Fanø.

The Water Tower from 1897 is a building that serves two purposes. First, it includes a container for storing (drinking) water and, second, the elevated position of the storage reservoir ensures a constant pressure in the water system of the city.
At the Esbjerg Museum are two large permanent exhibitions. In the fishing exhibition equipment, vehicles, paintings and models are shown that illustrate the time of the opening of the Danish ocean fishing in the years 1880-1940. The seafaring exhibition reports about ships and seafaring people from the time of the Vikings up to the present day with container ships and offshore activities.
The city park is located in the town center with views over the harbor, the music store and the water tower are in the park.
The Bryndum Church dates from about 1250 and is an architecturally interesting historical building which shows in a very instructive way the transition from Romanesque to Gothic architecture. In the choir are frescoes from the years 1275-1300 which are probably influenced by German art,among others,they represent the patron saint of the Church of Saint Lawrence.
The conservatory, which was decorated in an old power station from 1902, is an outstanding example of cultural innovation in an old industrial building. The strong arched pediment above a pointed Greek ancient entablement, the moving rhythm and the distinctive pillars points towards the Vienna of the turn of the century with its mix of classicism and Art Nouveau.
The Skads Church is a medieval church of ashlar rocks with a late Gothic tower of large bricks. The typical location for a medieval church on the outskirts of the village is still clearly visible. The church has a vault from about 1500 with frescoes by the "lily master". Remarkable is the epitaph from 1788 about a yard owner couple from the area.
The book printing museum houses machinery from the art of printing over more than 100 years. There typesetters, setting and printing machines can be seen.
The museum lightship Horns Rev is the largest preserved wooden lightship in the world. On board an exhibition is set up, which shows how life was on board. The ship is intact, its state and its establishment closely match the last time of service. The ship was built in 1912 in Fåborg.
The Esbjerg Art Museum has a large collection of Danish paintings and sculptures from 1910 up to the present day. The collection represents i.a. the Cobra group, Richard Mortensen, Robert Jacobsen, Svend Wiig Hansen, Per Kirkeby and artists of the modern time.
Esbjerg Amber Museum. Denmark's gold has always fascinated mankind. The west coast of Jutland is famous for its many amber finds. Several hundreds of unique amber objects with nearly 10.000 years of history are presented in this huge exhibition.
