Harstad is a Norwegian port town with about 24,000 residents. It is located on the island Hinnøy, the southernmost island of Vesterålen. In 1904 Harstad received city rights. The port city lives mainly from trade, the local shipyards, military industry and administration and is today the center of oil production in the area.

Inside there are carved altarpieces found in the workshop of the late Gothic Lübeck-based Bernt Notke.On an elevation close to Trondenes church in a military zone is the so-called Adolf Cannon with a caliber of 42 cm. In the bunker beneath the cannon there is an exhibition.
