Hatiheu is a harbor town on the island of Nuku Hiva belonging to the Marquesas Islands in the Pacific Ocean. Geographically and politically these belong to French Polynesia. The Marquesas are composed of 14 islands (of which only 7 are inhabited), and many small islands. These islands were colonized by Samoa and Tonga, about the birth of Christ at the latest however until 300AD. Nuku Hiva is one of the main islands of the northern group and is also the largest island in the archipelago with 330 km² and 2,375 residents. The Hatiheu Bay is located in the north of the island.
