Hiroshima is a port city in the southwest of Japan's main island of Honshu and the capital of Hiroshima Prefecture. In 1589, Hiroshima emerged as a castle town, a modern defense system as a building on stilts on a former marshland. It was an important bastion of the army of the Tokugawa Shoguns. In the following years, Hiroshima became the largest city west of Osaka; she was not only an important troop location, also the industry and port grew rapidly. During World War II here was the headquarters of the Japanese army and the location of the arms industry, before the city was destroyed by the atomic bomb.
Cruise offers to the port Hiroshima / Japan
Hiroshima is best explored by tram. Unlike most other Japanese cities transportation runs overground here. Many of the cars that ride past the monuments date back to the 1940s. So the tram has become Hiroshima rolling museum. Interesting is, among other things, the Shukkeien Garden, already laid out on the bank of the Kyobashi River. In spring cherry trees bloom here, then the azaleas, the central pond is populated throughout the year by carp. Every year on August 6, the Peace Festival takes place here. On this day the victims of the bomb catastrophe are commemorated: People let peace doves fly up and bring lanterns that in the evening they set on the river courses. Hiroshima's Memorial ruins stand on the bank of the Motoyasu River, near the Aioi Bridge, the center of the explosion. The steel framework of the dome of the earlier Trade Promotion Center has become as "Bomb Dome" a symbol of the city. In 1996, it was declared a UNESCO world cultural heritage. On theopposite peninsula is the Peace Memorial Park with the Peace Hall, the Flame of Peace and the Peace Museum whose visit is a moving experience.
