The port city with its 8,000 inhabitants is located on the Seine estuary on the English Channel. Already in the 11th century Honfleur was first documented in writing. The name of the city (originally "Honnefleu") is of Viking origin. Historically the small town played an important role, for example, during the Hundred Years War or the time of the great voyages of discovery.

With its picturesque, sometimes only 2-m-narrow houses, this small artist village offers its visitors some treasures. In addition to the picturesque house scenery at the port you should also not miss the Lieutenance (the remains of a fortification, 16-17th century)at the Vieux Bassin. To Honfleur's famous children each, the painter Eugène Boudin and the composer Eric Satie, a museum is dedicated. The birthplace of Impressionism is the Ferme St-Siméon. It housed not only Boudin, but also Jongkind and Monet. Today it is a hotel.
One of the longest bridges in Europe was inaugurated here in Honfleur in 1995: the Pont de Normandie, which connects Honfleur with Le Havre. As nice souvenir from the region, or simply a souvenir, a bottle of Calvados is suitable, the apple brandy from Normandy.
