Ivigtut / Greenland

Ivigtut is located on Arsuk Fjord in Greenland. It is the great mineral place, where already in the middle of the 19th century minerals were extracted including mainly cryolite. Near to one of the mines in the harbor was built. Today the mines are exhausted, the port has hardly importance and the village has become quiet.

The ruins of the mining-sites are still visible and give an impressive picture of how important this area once was. But in terms of landscape the village is still a peculiarity. Because the village is surrounded by snowy mountains, it is rather protected by the sea and was thus able to develop a rich flora and fauna, which are also processed into delicious meals. The glaciers by the fjord are as impressive everywhere.
