Kangerlussuaq (Söndre Strömfjord) / Greenland

Kangerlussuaq - in English: long fjord - is a small settlement(open only in the summer months ) consisting of an airport, a seaport and a number of residential containers made of sheet metal that act like randomly thrown into the icy landscape. About 600 people live in the village, located at the foot of a 170-km-long fjord inland.
First  in Kangerlussuaq live people who are employed at the airport or seaport and who afer a while return to busier areas of Greenland. founded in 1941 as a US military base, Kangerlussuaq passed some 50 years later to Greenland's self-government.
Kangerlussuaq is the only place in all of Greenland wherefrom the mighty masses of the inland ice sheet can be reached over a road.
