Khasab / Oman

Definitely worth a visit are the prehistoric cave paintings in Wadi Tawi as well as the nature reserve Khalidiya and Fort Khasab. The fort goes back to the Portuguese rule in the 16th century and was an important bastion for the defense of the Strait of Hormuz. From the towers you have a beautiful view over the offshore bay.
Opening times: Saturday to Wednesday 8am to 12pm
Khasab is a free trade association just two hours away by speedboat from Iran and an important transit point for the rade with Dhubai. It is used by Iranian smugglers who bring at night live goats by speedboats across the Strait of Hormuz and begin the following night packed with duty-free cigarettes on the way back. The entry of more than 150 speedboats every morning at sunrise and the unloading of goats is a spectacular show.
