The surroundings of Lamego is dominated by vineyards, whose crops are processed to Port Wine. Until the 16th century this was still known under the name "vinho de Lamego". Above the city towers the Santuario de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios. The baroque church was built in the 18th century on the site of a chapel built in 1361. Worth seeing is the Castello, a typical medieval fortress. Inside the Se Cathedral stand out the ceiling paintings of Nicolau Nasoni.They may be the only paintings of the Italian architect in Portugal.
