The harbor is partly been preserved in its original form. There stands also the monument to Ferdinand. Also the Fortezza Vecchia from 1534 is worth seeing. For passionate trotters,after the port visit it's further eastbound Via Grande to the old town, where not only the central market but also small shops tempt you to shop. There also art lovers will get their money's worth: a bulwark (Fortezza Nuova) and the rebuilt cathedral , also the Piazza della Repubblica with various monuments of Tuscan rulers. Enjoying art you can at the two museums, the Museo Civico and the Museo d'arte contemporanea (mainly works by Italian artists) completed in southern Livorno.
For fans of live fish the aquarium with a marine biology institute is the first location. You reached it after about 1 km via Viale Italia that runs along parks and offers a magnificent view of the coast.
