The small resort of Martinšćica with its 190 inhabitants is located on the west coast of the Croatian island of Cres, in the northern part of the Kvarner Bay, in the Adriatic Sea. The island was already populated in the Neolithic period. In 1920 it was ceded to Italy by the Treaty of Rapallo and returned to Croatia only after World War II. In Martinšćica itself a Franciscan monastery was founded in the 16th century.
