Mykonos, a Greek island in the southern part of the Aegean Sea. It belongs to the northeastern island chain of the Cyclades and is separated by the neighboring islands of Delos and Tinos only by narrow marine estuary. The main source of the almost 4,000 islanders is in the meantime tourism concentrated especially in the picturesque capital Mykonos with its white flat roof houses and in the neighboring swim bays. In the bare inland, the Ano Merá, there are numerous single yards as well as some monasteries from the Byzantine-Venetian times and tombs from ancient times.
Katja Ebstein has musically immortalized the island with her hit song "Das war der Stern von Mykonos".

The island is rather poor in sightseeing attractions, worth mentioning are but the windmills at the old port, the small church of Panagia Paraportiani (acute danger of collapse and therefore not to be entered), the narrowest alley in the world, the "Little Venice" district directly by the sea as well as the already legendary Pelikan Petros, who,on its way to the south, paused on Mykonos and was fed there by the inhabitants. So he stayed there and became the mascot of the island. Meanwhile, there are also offspring who "waddle" through the city.
