Niederfinow is a small village in Brandenburg with about 700 inhabitants. The Oder-Havel canal runs along it and connects the village to the shipping traffic. Once there were four locks, by means of which a height difference of 36 meters was overcome. Today, however, they have lost their function, since they were replaced by a modern ship lift in 1934. This impressive lift is still in operation today and can lift barges up to 750 tonnes within five minutes.
Cruise offers to the port Niederfinow / Germany
After you have visited the ship lift in Niederfinow, you can start wonderful trips into the surroundings. The place borders directly on the Biosphere Reserve Schorfheide-Chorin, which is one of the largest nature reserves in Germany. The parts accessible to the visitors impress with a beautiful forest landscape, which was the former hunting area of most famous personalities, among them the Brandenburg electors and the Prussian kings. The hunting castles Groß Schönebeck and Hubertusstock still testify today about it and are worth a visit.
Not far from Niederfinow is also the medieval monastery Chorin, one of the most beautiful buildings in northern German backstone Gothic. Clear lakes in the surroundings, remnants of the former ice age glacier, with an excellent water quality invite holidaymakers to bathe or relax in the idyllic waterfront landscape.
