Ottawa is the capital of Canada. It is located in the eastern part of the province of Ontario on the Ottawa River, just off the border with the province of Québec. Ottawa counts as a large Ottawa-Gatineau area 1.2 million inhabitants. The population of the city is 50% English and 32% French. Through many immigrants numerous languages are common. Ottawa is the only officially bilingual city in the region.

Part of this festival is a great boat parade on the Rideau Canal, which flows here into the Ottawa River. In the winter months, the channel is the longest skating rink in the world (about 8 miles).
