The Isla Santa Cruz is the second largest of the Galapagos Islands. In addition to the diverse flora and fauna of the Galapagos Islands, there is a distinct infrastructure and the Charles Darwin Research Station with a museum. It is located in the largest city of the Galapagos Islands, in Puerto Ayora, the place over which the island is usually reached. The aim of research on Santa Cruz is to preserve the original nature, which is increasingly destroyed by the introduction of foreign farm animals such as donkeys and goats. It is named after Charles Darwin, who got some suggestions for his research on the Galapagos Islands.
