Salerno is a town on the beautiful peninsula of Sorrento with a good 150,000 inhabitants. Worthy is the the city nestled in the mountains, which descend to the Thyrrenian Sea, the inner city is still partly medieval, the shore street a modern promenade.

"San Matteo" was built in 1080, has magnificent mosaics and some valuable archaeological pieces from the ruin city of Paestum. The bones of St. Matthew are also found in this church. Also interesting is the Regional Museum ( "Museo Provinciale"), where also ancient finds are exhibited.
For a beautiful view over the city, the Castello di Arechi is located above the town and is of Lombardic origin.
