Santiago de Compostela / Spain

The Spanish pilgrimage town of Santiago de Compostela is known worldwide as the destination of the famous Camino de Santiago. According to legend, the remains of St James the Greater, one of the twelve disciples of Jesus, found their final resting place here. After his rather unsuccessful mission experiments on the territory of present-day Spain, on his return to Palestine he was beheaded by King Herod Agrippa. His body, which was embedded in a boat, had sailed once again to the coast of Spain and buried there.
