The city of Speyer has about 50,000 inhabitants and is located on the beautiful Rhine. A beautiful old town and one of the most important Romanesque churches in Germany make this city a very special trip destination. The "imperial town" existed already in the 7th century.

The most interesting building of the city is, of course, the high-Romanesque cathedral of St. Maria and St. Stephan with its six towers and its extraordinary height. There is also the Historical Museum, which provides information on the history of the city and region. Another sacred building is the Trinity Church, a baroque work.
Interesting neighborhood in Speyer is the Jewish yard (near the cathedral), founded around 1100, where many of the old buildings have been preserved (including the synagogue).
From the old town fortification still preserved is the Old Gate, one of the highest gates in Germany, wherefrom one can enjoy a great view of the city. And then you can simply stroll around the city or relax at one of the nice street cafes.
