St. George, Bermudas / Bermudas

St. George's was the first settlement of the Bermuda Islands. The city was founded in 1612 by Englishmen, who had suffered shipwrecks here. For a long time it was the capital of Bermuda, until it was abolished by Hamilton.
Today, the city is only party inhabited and serves as an open-air museum.

Most of the houses, which can be seen here, are from the 17th and 18th centuries. The Barber's Alley and Aunt Peggy's Lane are streets that have preserved their features almost exactly as they were originally created. The advantage of St. George's is, however, that the historical town  combines with the modern life, that the old buildings are still partly used there as a store or restaurant.
Among the most important buildings are the Old State House of 1620, the unfinished church and the Old Rectory. Also worth seeing is the Bermuda National Trust Museum.
