With De Muy and De Slufter, Texel is home to two very important natural reserves especially for birds. In De Slufter, large quantities of beach limonium, which in high summer cover large areas of the nature reserve with a bright violet dress. Hobby ornithologists will be delighted to observe the many different bird species up close. Spread over the whole island you will find the typical Texel sheep barns where the animals can find shelter in cold winds. Some of these barns are even now under conservation. A popular activity for the whole family is a visit to the Ecomare, a museum that is interested in animal life on and around the island. It is particularly well-known for its bird and seal kennel.
