Venlo is a city in the Dutch province of Limburg with about 92,000 inhabitants. The former Hanseatic town of Maas is today the economic, administrative and cultural center of the northern Limburg. After devastating destructions in World War II, Venlo presents itself today as a modern city. Along with a few Art Nouveau buildings, you will find here one of the few relicts of the bygone times, the Gothic Hoofdkerk or St. Martinuskerk. Inside you can admire a baptistery from 1621 and a carved altar with biblical scenes from the 15th century. The beautiful Renaissance city hall has survived the passing of time, too. Venlo is also famous for the Limburg Museum. In the Nationaal Aspergeen Champignonmuseum, located northwest of Venlo, the visitor can experience everything that is worth knowing about the cultivation conditions and the processing of asparagus, as the region is known for its cultivation.
