Ybbs is a town with about 5,800 inhabitants, located in the Austrian federal state of Lower Austria, at the mouth of the same-named river Ybbs into the Danube. In the Middle Ages, Ybbs was of great importance due to its strategic location at the crossroads of various important trade routes and the flourishing salt trade.
Cruise offers to the port Ybbs / Austria
The center of Ybbs impresses at first sight by its picturesque streets, lined with perfectly restored Renaissance buildings. Also the old town fortification has partly been preserved until today. Well worth seeing is also the Ybbser parish church of St. Lawrence. First completed in 1512, it was furnished in baroque style after a city fire 1716. Particularly interesting is the beautiful vaulted ceiling, as well as the organ that bears Mozart's initials since his visit in 1767. By no means miss a visit to the Jewish cemetery laid out in 1894 and the local bicycle museum. A beautiful trip destination is the partly preserved Cistercian abbey Säusenstein Abbey in nearby Säusenstein.
