Before the cruise

PCR or antigen test
We continually evaluate all options to protect the well-being of our guests and the communities we visit on our cruises.
Vaccination certificate
Vaccination requirements vary by destination and change frequently. It is the responsibility of each guest to obtain the required vaccinations and have the relevant valid health documents on hand during their cruise. We recommend that you contact your doctor if you have any health problems.
Regulations regarding COVID-19
The health and safety of our guests, onboard hosts and the people of the destinations we visit are our top priority. Together with the MSC Group, we are continuously assessing the situation in order to adapt our guidelines accordingly - both for our introductory voyage, which will start on 05.31.2023, and for all subsequent voyages on the EXPLORA I. Vaccination requirements for voyages as of 05.30.2023 have not yet been determined. Whether they will be mandatory will depend on the COVID-19 infection rate just prior to the, as the situation is still uncertain and global situations and requirements may change by then.
Transfers
You can book transfers on board. Our hosts will be happy to help you. If you need a transfer before or after your cruise, you can book it. Please inform your preferred travel advisor or our Explora Journeys Ambassador at the time of booking.

Can we book a private transfer at any destination? This service must be booked in advance and is subject to availability.
Documents:
Do I have to provide my personal information (passport number, photo) before embarkation? You will be asked to provide this information during the booking and check-in process.

What documentation do I need to expedite the check-in process on embarkation day? To speed up the check-in process, please check in online in advance. The documents required for check-in are your passport, credit card and booking reference.

I have applied for a passport but haven't received it yet. Can I still check in? You must have a valid identification document upon embarkation. At least, you must provide a valid passport number. Guests without a valid passport will be turned away and not allowed to board.

What are your policies on passports and visas? Visa and passport requirements, as well as regulations regarding vaccination and other health requirements, vary by destination and are subject to frequent change. It is the responsibility of each guest to obtain the necessary documents and to be able to present the valid travel documents necessary for the cruise. Guests traveling without the correct documentation will not be allowed aboard the ship and will not receive a refund. Passports must be valid for at least 6 months more after the end of your cruise.
 

During the cruise

Single travelers
Each of our suites has been designed for double occupancy. The single occupancy supplement varies for all suite categories depending on the cruise, starting at 15%. Single occupancy supplements are subject to changes on the selected cruise.
Allergies
Can a special detergent be used to wash my bed linen and towels? Please let us know of your special requirements in advance or bring your own detergent. Our hosts will be happy to help you.
Shop on board
EXPLORA I has eight retail stores. They are located around the Atrium Lobby on Deck 4.
Doctor on board
Yes, there is a doctor on board. However, the onboard hospital is only equipped for first aid and the treatment of minor illnesses. It does not have the same facilities as a land-based hospital and the doctor is not a specialist.
Payments on board
Should I  give a gratuity on board? Service charges are included in your tour price. However, if you wish to reward one of our hosts for excellent service, that is at your discretion.What currency is used on board? The currency used on board is the Euro, except when we travel to and within America. There the US dollar (USD) is our currency on board.
Language on board
Mainly English is spoken on board. However, our service staff can also help you in Italian, German, French and Spanish.
Casino
Slots and games are available at our casino including poker, blackjack, American roulette, baccarat and progressive slots.
Destination Experiences
Can I participate in multiple Destination Experiences in one day? Yes, if the schedule of these two Destination Experiences allows it. There should be at least 30 minutes between the return from the first tour and the start of the second tour. We are not responsible if the first tour is delayed and guests are unable to join the second tour.

Can I book Destination Experiences on board? There is a Destination Experience Expert on board where guests can book, change and cancel their Destination Experiences.

What happens if a tour is cancelled? If a Destination Experience is canceled by Explora Journeys, guests will receive a full refund. For Destination Experiences canceled by guests, the applicable cancellation policy applies.
Restrictions for children
The areas on board that are only accessible for adults are the whiskey bar with the observation lounge (smoking is permitted here) and the front pool area on Deck 12.
Elevator on board
Yes, there are several elevators on board. The exact location of the elevators can be found on the deck plan.
Movies on board
We offer an extensive selection of new and classic films on board.
Fitness studio
Our ship includes a 270 m² fitness area with the latest equipment, a panoramic running track and a gym for group and individual training.A variety of sporting activities are available aboard our ship, including paddle tennis and basketball at our outdoor courts.
Church services on board
We plan to hold celebrations and services around major religious holidays such as Passover, Easter, Hanukkah and Christmas. For more information, please contact your preferred travel advisor at the time of booking.
Beach/pool towel
Beach towels are available at each pool and there is one in your suite to take to the beach.
Internet on board
Wi-Fi is available to all guests on board free of charge and they can connect to it  multiple devices at the same time. As this is a satellite-based system, the connection may be interrupted at times. However, if the signal is strong, guests should be able to download and stream content (though not in Ultra HD format).

You can use the onboard Wi-Fi for calls, work and streaming. However, please note that it is not possible to make or receive calls while sailing. If you need to make an important call, please contact a host for assistance.
Cabins
Can the terraces of connecting suites also be connected?
Yes, there is a lockable connecting door between the sea view terraces.

Can I book connecting cabins?
We have a limited number of connecting suites. Please inform your Preferred Travel Advisor or our Explora Journeys Ambassadors of your preferences; they will help you.

Can I select a specific suite/residence or will I be assigned one?
You can select your suite at the time of booking. Your preferred travel advisor or our Explora Journeys Ambassadors will be glad to help.

How big are the suites/residences?
Our Ocean Suites start at 35m², our Ocean Penthouses at 43m² and our Ocean Residences are at least 70m². Our Owner's Residence even offers you 280 m².

Are there connecting suites or residences?
We have a limited number of connecting suites. Please let your Preferred Travel Advisor or our Explora Journeys Ambassadors know your preferences so they can assist you.

Do all suites and residences have a private balcony or terrace with sea view?
All of our Ocean Suites, Penthouses and Residences feature floor-to-ceiling ocean-view windows and a sunny patio.

Is there a makeup mirror in the room?
You will find a makeup mirror on the dressing table in your walk-in closet and in the bathroom.


Are the curtains dark?
Yes, our suites have dark curtains to ensure a good night's sleep.

How big are the beds?
Are only suites with double beds available?The majority of our suites are furnished with a king-size bed (180 cm). Some suites have two single beds (2 x 90 cm).

Are there irons and ironing boards in the cabins?
For safety reasons, we do not provide irons or ironing boards in the suites. However, they are available at two onboard guest launderettes and we also offer a 24-hour cleaning and ironing service available through your suite attendant or butler (fees may apply).

Can I order breakfast in my room the evening before?
Our in-suite dining menu also includes a breakfast offer and this can be ordered in advance.

Do the suites/residences have showers or bath tubs?
Most of our suites have spacious walk-in showers and there is also the option to reserve a suite with a bath. If you wish to do so, please let your Preferred Travel Advisor or our Explora Journeys Ambassadors know at the time of booking.

What are the advantages of booking a residence?
Our Ocean Residences offer more space - they are at least 70 m². Additional benefits include: an exclusive menu for in-suite dining, including specialties from our onboard culinary offer; fully stocked in-suite minibar with a selection of premium spirits, wines and soft drinks; welcome bottle of premium champagne in the suite; 24-hour butler service; unlimited free laundry, dry cleaning and ironing service; personalized butler greeting and priority boarding upon arrival; airport transfers are included (for a maximum distance of 80 km to the port); Airport security fast track is included (if  available); VIP lounge upon embarkation (if available).
Can my child sleep in my room? We welcome all generations on board and offer great discounts for our little explorers. Babies and toddlers between 6 months and 2 years old travel for free, and additional discounts are available for children and teenagers between 2 and 18 years old. To take advantage of this special offer, infants, children and teenagers should be registered as third or fourth guests in the same suite. For the first and second guest, these discounts cannot be applied regardless of their age.

Can I get an extra bed for my room?
Some of our suites are equipped with a fold-out sofa bed that can accommodate a maximum of one adult or two children; or with an extra bed that is suitable for one person. The maximum occupancy of the suites is 3-4 people. Fold-out sofa beds and extra beds are subject to availability.


Children on board
Younger guests are also welcome aboard Explora Journeys. During the usual holiday season we offer special children's programs for the young explorers. And the prices? Infants between 6 months and 2 years travel free; children and young people up to the age of 18 receive a discount of up to 50%.
Clothing on board
There is no dress code onboard, but smart casual resort style is recommended.
As we do not organize banquets and formal evenings, we do not offer a rental service.
24-hour housekeeping and laundry services are available (fees may apply).
Cosmetics and barber/hairdresser services
A beauty salon is available on board, offering various treatments.
Diseases
Guest suffering from a medical condition that could affect their ability to travel considering the ship's itinerary must notify Explora Journeys at the time of booking and provide a medical certificate prior to booking.
Food
Due to our strict health regulations and standards, we prefer that guests do not take food on board. We are happy to accommodate the special dietary needs of our guests.
Medical services
There is an onboard hospital equipped only for first aid and the treatment of minor illnesses. The onboard hospital does not have the facilities of a hospital on land and the doctor is not a specialist.

Medical consultations on board are chargeable. We therefore strongly advise that you take out comprehensive travel health insurance that covers medical treatment, repatriation and expenses.
Mobility assistance on board
You can bring your mobility aid aboard our ships. Please inform your preferred travel advisor during the booking process.

Guests who require specific services during their cruise or who are traveling with medical equipment, including wheelchairs, motorized scooters, or oxygen therapy, are requested to notify us in writing prior to final payment being due.

Accessible suites are available aboard the Explora Journeys.Some Destination Experiences are accessible. These are marked with a specific sign. Depending on the guest requirements, these experiences may be subject to the availability of wheelchair transportation, which must be requested in advance. We encourage guests to notify their preferred travel advisor or an Explora Journeys Ambassador at the time of booking.
Smoking
Smoking is permitted in the cigar lounge and there is a selection of cigars available for purchase.

Explora Journeys respects the needs and wants of all guests—including those who smoke and those who don not. In accordance with global standards, smoking is only permitted in designated areas of the ship. Such areas are equipped with a special ventilation system. Smoking is strictly forbidden in the suites and on the terraces of the suites.

Smoking is only permitted outside of the Cigar Lounge and in the following areas:
Deck 5: On the starboard side of the outside promenade of the coffee lounge
Deck 11: On the bow and port side, outside of the observation lounge
Deck 12: On the bow and port side, in a part of the bow pool bar
Deck 13: On the stern and port side, in a part of the panoramic bar

Smoking is permitted in the following outside areas of the ship:
Deck 5: On the starboard side of the outside promenade of the coffee lounge
Deck 11: On the bow and port side, outside of the observation lounge
Deck 12: On the bow and port side, in a part of the bow pool bar
Deck 13: On the stern and port side, in a part of the panoramic bar
Reception
Our guest services staff are located on Deck 4 in the lobby. They take care of our guests 24 hours a day.
Safe
Each suite is equipped with a safe to keep your valuables safe on board.
Pregnancy on board
We welcome on board pregnant guests who are in the first 24 weeks of pregnancy. Our guests must consult a doctor before the cruise. No matter what stage of pregnancy they are in, they must obtain a medical certificate confirming their fitness to travel aboard the ship. The selected cruise must then be taken into account.
Special dietary needs
During the booking process you will be asked to indicate any allergies, special dietary requirements and special requests. Please inform us of any special dietary requirements before you cruise.  
Animals on board
We do not accept animals aboard Explora Journeys. If you require a service animal, please let us know upon booking.
Loyalty program
We are in the process of finalizing our guest loyalty program and take note of which guests are already members of the MSC Voyagers Club loyalty program. These members will receive notification of our new program at the time of booking.

Entertainment on board
We don't offer big production style shows but more intimate entertainment with emerging talent and artists. Our events take place at different times of the day and at the same time, so that our guests can enjoy variety and choice on board.

Our bow and stern lounges on Deck 5 offer a selection of live music and DJs every day.
Laundry service on board
Guests can do their own laundry or use a laundry service (fees apply).
Wellness and Spa
Our indoor and outdoor wellness facilities extend over more than 700 m² and offer you a thermal area with whirlpools, relaxation room, salt cave, Finnish sauna, steam sauna and heated Thalasso pool.More than 2,500 m² of outdoor space with spectacular sea views includes three heated swimming pools, one of which is adults-only. There are also 64 private cabanas and an indoor pool with a retractable glass roof, allowing for all-weather swimming and poolside relaxation.
Newspapers
Yes, there is a digital selection of the world's most influential daily newspapers on board.
Customs
You must clear customs before embarkation or disembarkation, in accordance with each country's applicable regulations.

Documents and papers

Travel insurance
We recommend that each guest obtain adequate insurance that will adequately cover for him/her for the cancellation of the cruise, medical care and the cost, loss and/or damage of luggage, from the time his/her booking is confirmed until the end of the cruise, as indicated in the relevant informational materials.
Tickets and documents
As soon as you have completed your booking, you will receive an email with the booking confirmation. If changes are made to your booking or additional payments are made, you will receive an updated booking confirmation.How do I get my travel documents (tickets, luggage tags, etc.)? Our documents are generated as electronic files and the most important documents are attached in PDF format. You can print them out on site at any time. Your booking confirmation always contains the most up-to-date information.Where can I find the itinerary for each day?You will find a detailed overview of your cruise in your booking confirmation and travel documents. You will also receive an online schedule with the daily schedule.
