Before the cruise

Embarkation and disembarkation
With your travel documents you will receive detailed embarkation information with the exact berth at the embarkation place and embarkation times. Ships occasionally change location at short notice despite officially confirmed moorings. If you arrive individually, you are advised to arrive at the pier at least 3 hours before the ship departs. For organized arrival / departure packages by bus, train or plane you will be taken directly to your ship. Please note the exact embarkation times.
 Even if the ship docks earlier in the harbor, the crew must use the time to "clear ship". Please understand that no boarding on the ship is possible until the specified time. Disembarkation on the day of departure usually takes place until 09:00.
Flights
Flights that are part of your cruise with nicko cruises are carefully planned by the cruise line and booked with renowned airlines.
On the one hand, you have to take into account flight schedules and availability of the companies, but in the case of connecting flights, there are also predetermined and useful transitional periods, which allow you and your luggage to reach the connecting flight. If the booking class or airline calculated by nicko cruises is fully booked at the time of your booking request, you are offered a higher rate booking class.
Flight times that the cruise line mentions to you prior to the issuance of your travel documents are non-binding, as even nicko cruises has no influence on any changes of these times by the airlines. Please note that the flight rebooking requests must be checked and there may be charges for rebooking. So-called direct flights mean that stopovers are possible, but they are not linked to a change of aircraft (different than change connections).
A day of arrival and departure is not a relaxing vacation day and due to flight times, it is quite possible that the arrival on board takes place late in the evening (or after midnight), the departure after the end of the cruise, possibly, also early in the morning.
If your luggage does not arrive at the destination airport together with you, the airline is your contact. Please contact the Lost & Found counter at  the luggage hall immediately. Local airline staff will need your boarding pass and baggage check to register a loss report.
Please keep this loss notice well, because only with the given reference number can further investigations be made. In general, German-speaking staff can be reached at each airline via the respective hotline, under which you will receive information on how your luggage can be redelivered on board.
Guests with physical limitations
Your ship offers you the greatest possible comfort, but of course you will find stairs and narrow doors and corridors. Even the entry or exist across the mostly narrow gangways is not always at ground level and, depending on the tidal range, very steep. If you cannot overcome these obstacles on your own, a cruise on this ship is not recommended.
We ask for your understanding if, in some cases, tenders or shore leave may be refused for reasons of security. The decision on this is made by the captain. The crew is of course helpful, but please note that the employees on board are not trained nursing staff and are not allowed to take on any nursing activities. If you have a restriction that prevents you from participating in the rescue exercise, please also inform us of this before you start your cruise.
If you need special assistance, you must travel with a companion. The ship is not barrier-free.
Guests who are dependent on a wheelchair must bring their own foldable wheelchair. Please note that the number of guests who are dependent on a wheelchair per cruise is limited for safety reasons and embarkation may be refused without prior notification. For safety reasons and to check the requirements, please inform us of any special needs, limited mobility or other physical restrictions prior to booking.
Luggage
The weight of your luggage may not exceed 23 kg per piece. When arriving by plane, the baggage allowance rules of the respective airline apply. Nicko cruises assumes no liability for transport damage caused by loading and unloading luggage that weighs more than the maximum weight of 23 kg. Please note that your empty baggage must be stowed in your cabin.The storage space provided under the beds is suitable for suitcases with a maximum height of 23 centimetres.Your luggage may only contain personal items. It is forbidden to bring weapons, knives, alcohol or intoxicants on board. For safety reasons, it is not allowed to bring food and drinks on board. This also applies to everything that is bought for consumption during the shore leave. The hotel management will  store local products / souvenirs that you would like to take home with you until disembarkation. According to the rules of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS), every piece of luggage - including hand luggage - is x-rayed upon embarkation.
Cabins
You will usually receive your cabin number with the booking confirmation. The cruise line will gladly accept your non-binding cabin request upon booking. However, information about cabin numbers is expressly not part of the contract. Typical ship noises, such as from the ship's propulsion, air conditioning/ventilation, etc. can be heard in almost all rooms.
The standard cabins and suites are equipped with a double bed with separate mattresses. The beds can also be placed separately upon request. The Royal Penthouse Suite has a king-size double bed.
VASCO DA GAMA has double cabins with connecting doors and suites that can accommodate up to 4 people. For occupancy by 3 - 4 people, the ship has double cabins with a sofa bed and/or a single upper bed. These cabins are particularly suitable for travelers with children. Cabins for guests with limited mobility are also marked on the deck plan.
The suites have a maximum occupancy of 4 people and have an additional double sofa bed.
Shore excursions
Shore excursions organized and put together for you by nicko cruises take you to the most beautiful landscapes and most important sights along your itinerary. Of course, you can also explore your holiday destination on your own. Leaving your ship is always possible when the authorities and the captain have officially released the ship and the appropriate announcement has been made. When you should be back on board, please refer to the daily program. Your ship cannot wait for late passengers due to the registered lay time in the port. Any additional costs (such as hotel or additional transfer costs) will not be covered. If your ship is in the roads, the landing takes place by the ship's own or local tender boats.
Services not included in the travel price
Please note that the following services are not included in ou travel prices: individual arrival and departure, excursions - if these are not already included in the travel price - insurances, drinks, gratuities (recommendation 13-17 € per day / person), other personal expenses.
Price and service changes between catalog printing and booking
1. The offers for the contractual travel services in this catalog correspond to the status at the time of printing in June 2024. Please understand, however, that changes to the services are possible for objective reasons until your booking request has been submitted, which nicko cruises must therefore expressly reserve.
We will of course notify you thereof before concluding the contract.
2. The prices stated in this catalog also correspond to those at the time of printing and are binding for us as the tour operator.
However, the cruise line expressly reserves the right - in particular for the following reasons - to declare a change in the travel price prior to the conclusion of the contract, which nicko cruises will of course inform you about prior to booking:
- A corresponding adjustment of the price specified in the catalog is necessary in the event of an increase in transportation costs (especially fuel costs), taxes for certain services such as port, airport or import fees, air traffic security costs, air traffic or VAT tax, so-called "bed tax" or a change of the exchange rates applicable to the cruise in question are permitted after the catalog has been published.
- A price adjustment is also permitted if the package tour requested by the customer and offered in the catalog is only available by purchasing additional tourist services (contingents) after the catalog has been published.For price changes after the travel contract has been concluded, the provisions on price changes in the travel conditions, to which the shipping company expressly refers in addition, apply, provided they have been effectively agreed.
Roads/ ship moorings
Each ship has a berth in each port, which can be changed by the authorities at short notice. This does not always have to be in the center. In front of various moorings you will find an anchor symbol in the itineraries on the travel pages; this means that your ship does not dock at a pier but drops anchor at a designated, safe location or, according to nautical terminology, "lies in the roadstead". Please note that it is the responsibility of the port authorities at all times to assign the ships a mooring in the roads; this is beyond the control of the cruise line. In these cases, a regular shuttle service between the ship and the port will be set up, which is done either by tender boats or by the ship's own motorized Zodiacs. This disembarkation is weather dependent. For safety reasons, guests with limited mobility cannot use of this service. This also applies to guests with a pronounced form of visual impairment.
Route and service changes
Sea voyages are subject to special sea circumstances which cannot be influenced by Nicko Cruises. The cruise therefore reserves the right to make changes in the itinerary without prior notice, should they become necessary for safety reasons or due to sea, weather and ice conditions or due to travel warnings by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Vaccinations
You should inform yourself about infection and vaccination as well as other prophylactic measures from your family doctor in good time before you start your cruise.
If special vaccinations are absolutely necessary on your travel route, nicko cruises will explicitly point this out under "important travel information" at the end of the respective catalog chapter and in the pre-contractual information.
Each guest is responsible for complying with the requirements of the entry regulations of the respective destination.Children's area may only be used by children who have been vaccinated against measles. Proof must be provided by presenting the vaccination card.
Pregnant guests
Pregnant passengers must present a medical certificate at the start of the cruise as proof that there are no medical concerns about taking part in the cruise. Please note that you cannot take part in the cruise if you are already in the 24th week of pregnancy or if you have a high-risk pregnancy.
Insurance certificate
Your travel price is covered according to EU directives. You will receive the travel price insurance certificate with your nicko cruises travel confirmation.
Transfers
If you have booked a cruise with an arrival package (by train / plane via nicko cruises, the transfer to the ship and at the end of the cruise back to the station / airport is included in the travel price.If you arrive by plane, you will be expected t the airport building behind the baggage claim by the tour guide. Since sometimes guests from several flights that land in quick succession transfer together, there may be waiting times before the transfer bus departs. Your local tour guide will be glad to provide you with information.
Gratuities
It is an international practice for a satisfied guest to reward the services of the service staff accordingly. The amount of the gratuity is of course free for each guest and should be the recognition of a good service. Nicko cruises recommends on board 10-12 € per guest per night for the ship crew It is recommended. The nicko cruises cruise line, local travel guides and bus drivers are not included. But you can also thank them with a gratuity.
Valuables
In all cabins there is a small safe box where you can leave your valuables. Nevertheless, you are advised not to take things of value such as expensive jewelry etc. with you on your cruise. In some cases you visit regions of the world in which low standards of prosperity are already considered wealth and the presentation of supposedly valuable things could arouse desires.
The cruise line points out that valuables such as cameras, jewelry, cash and other valuables are to be carried in your hand luggage. Liability for valuables lost in unattended checked baggage is excluded.

During the cruise

Excursions
For every sea voyage, nicko cruises offers you a large number of excursions, which you can bindingly reserve on the cruise line's website at least 3 weeks before the start of the cruise, in rare exceptional cases also at short notice. Please note that you must first enter your onboard manifest data before you can book the excursions in your personal log-in area. The reserved excursions are paid for on board. The excursions are often tied to a minimum or maximum number of participants. If you do not take part in an excursion you have booked, the costs cannot be reimbursed. The arrival and departure times are planned approximate times. Every cruise may require changes to the schedule. Depending on the conditions, the captain decides on the best possible implementation. Travel plans, excursion programs and prices are subject to change. Wherever possible, the excursions are joined by German-speaking guides. German-speaking local tour guides during the excursions cannot be guaranteed in all destinations; in these cases there is an English-speaking companion.
Electrical devices
Irons, straighteners, immersion heaters and similar electrical devices are not allowed on board for safety reasons. The same applies to e-scooters, e-bikes and electric wheelchairs. The electrical voltage in your cabin is 220 volts. German plugs can be used without a country adapter. A hairdryer is available to you in the cabin free of charge.      
First aid and medical care on board
A doctor is available aboard the VASCO DA GAMA to provide first aid in emergencies. The services of the onboard doctor and any medication administered are billed on site. The onboard staff (for example at the reception) are not allowed to dispense any medication. Please remember to carry in your hand luggage a sufficient supply of medication that you need constantly. Usual medication such as  headache pills, you should have enough with you. Medically prescribed narcotics must be registered upon embarkation with presentation of the medical certificate, stored separately on board and secured against unauthorized removal. No liability is assumed for medication and urgently needed medical utensils that are carried in the suitcase. It is strongly recommended that you take out foreign health insurance which also covers the costs of medical transportation back to your home country. VASCO DA GAMA is subject to strict hygiene regulations, which are constantly monitored by the cruise management. For your own safety, the cruise line has set up hand disinfection devices at various points on board, which every guest should use as often as possible in order to prevent the unintentional spread of pathogens on the ship. It is possible to bring medical electrical devices on board upon request. Please note, however, that there may be temporary power fluctuations on board. Transportation of oxygen bottles by busses is generally not permitted.
Internet on board
VASCO DA GAMA is equipped with a satellite reception system and offers Wi-Fi internet for a fee. Continuous reception cannot always be guaranteed; network coverage may be interrupted on oceans. Please understand that costs due to interruptions cannot be reimbursed. To ensure the most stable internet service possible, there are restrictions on certain streaming providers and internet services. For more information, please refer to the ABC on board in your cabin. The reception staff will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Children on board
Children under the age of 16 travel free of charge when accompanied by two full-paying adults. When accompanied by a full-paying guest, children under the age of 16 receive a 50% discount on the cruise price. Information on cabins with connecting doors and discounts for bookable additional services can be found in the price charts and arrival pages at the end of each chapter. The minimum age for children on board is 24 months. Children aged 3 and over have access to a spacious, supervised play area with indoor and outdoor areas aboard the VASCO DA GAMA, which extends over two decks. Use of the children's area is only permitted for children who have been vaccinated against measles. Proof must be provided by presenting the vaccination certificate.            
Dress code
Sporty and casual clothing is recommended on board. You should wear non-slip shoes on the outside decks. Swimwear and sportswear can be worn in the designated pool, wellness and sports areas. Well-groomed clothing is required at the restaurants. For the shore excursions, it is recommended that you wear weather appropriate clothing. For cruises in cold regions, warm clothing as well as waterproof and comfortable shoes for shore excursions are recommended, even in the summer months. A laundry and ironing service is available aboard the VASCO DA GAMA for a fee.
Mail
You can drop off your mail on board. Usually, the mail will be sent in the nearest port. Postcards and stamps can be purchased at the reception desk on board, but keep in mind that prices on board may usually be more expensive than on land.
Smoking
Smoking is only permitted in the designated areas on the outside deck. Please only use the ashtrays provided. All interior areas, such as restaurants, salons, cabins, cabin balconies, corridors, etc. are non-smoking areas. This also applies to the use of e-cigarettes of any kind.
Ship amenities
Aboard the VASCO DA GAMA, a large number of public amenities are available for your well-being.This includes next to the wellness area with steam bath and sauna, a fitness area with various cardio machines. Table tennis, shuffleboard and darts complete the offer. The outdoor sports area includes amomg others paddle tennis hard court and a jogging track.
In addition, VASCO DA GAMA has an outdoor pool with two whirlpools and a covered indoor pool. You can use all these facilities for free. The use is at your own risk. In the beauty area, massage and beauty treatments are offered for a fee. You can also make an appointment with the hairdresser.Opening times and price lists for these services can be found on your cabin. A range of clothing, fashion jewellery, cosmetics and a selection of everyday items await you at the various onboard shops. Please note that due to customs regulations, the shops may only open outside the 12-mile zone. Changing shows and entertainment programs are performed at the "Hollywood's" Theatre.
Telephone on board (communication)
On board it is possible to make calls from cabin to cabin. Also phone calls on land over a satellite connection are possible. However, the costs are quite high and it is recommended to rather use your own cell phone. Mobile reception is generally only possible near land. Before you start your cruise please check with your provider about the amount of any roaming charges that may be incurred.
Animals / sports equipment
Due to the space conditions on board unfortunately no pets and the transportation of bulky sports equipment such as bicycles, surfboards etc. are allowed . Please also refrain from bringing e-bikes or electric travel scooters on board. The cruise line asks for your understanding.
Drinking water
Since the fresh water aboard ships is always stored in tanks, the cruise line recommends that you do not drink the tap water and, if necessary, get mineral water at the bars or restaurants. Tap water is no doubt suitable for brushing your teeth.
TV
Your ship has flat screens that work with a satellite system, so that TV reception is ensured for a large part of the route. The cruise line tries to provide at least one German-speaking transmitter everywhere, which in certain regions may not always be possible. The onboard television has films and selected travel reports ready for you.    
Environmental protection
VASCO DA GAMA is operated with sulfur-reduced MGO (Marine Gasoil) and has an SCR catalytic converter that reduces nitrogen oxides by up to 95 percent. VASCO DA GAMA clearly exceeds the emissions regulations of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). A new treatment system with the latest membrane technology enables wastewater to be treated in pool water quality without the use of chemicals. Please do your part to protect the environment by using resources sparingly thus helping to preserve the wonderful destinations for future generations.    
Meals
Aboard the VASCO DA GAMA there are five restaurants to choose from, which you can attend with free choice of seats. Breakfast is served à la carte or as buffet, and you can choose from a variety of menus for lunch and dinner. Depending on the route, the meals are always enriched with local elements. At the "Club Bistro" you can expect worldwide culinary delights as well as themed evenings in buffet form. For dinner, you can dine flexibly at all restaurants from 17:30 to 21:00 (last entry around 20:15.). At the restaurant "The Grill" you can expect exclusive menus for an additional charge. Please reserve your place here directly with the maitre d' in good time. The "Alfresco Grill" offers light meals outside of normal meal times. Please report upon booking any dietary requirements and special meals you may require. Appropriate meals can usually be prepared for you. The cruise line asks for your understanding if this is not possible on flights in exceptional cases.
Means of payment on board
The currency on board is the euro. You can pay for drinks that you consume on board as well as excursions booked on board  at the end of your cruise  cashor  in euros. Of course, you can also pay your onboard bill with your credit card (Mastercard, VISA) or EC card. Under certain circumstances, your bank or credit card company may incur foreign fees for card payments, as the VASCO DA GAMA sails under the Portuguese flag. Please note: Money cannot be exchanged on board.

Documents and papers

Passport / Visa
Please check in good time before your cruise that all the necessary papers and documents are properly valid. The cruise line draws your attention to the fact that you are responsible for your necessary travel documents, visas and compliance with the health regulations at the holiday destination.
Please note that minors need their own valid travel document. Children's ID cards are not accepted in most countries for travesl outside the European Union. An electronic passport with  photo is required for entry. If children are not traveling with their legal guardian, written confirmations from the legal guardians, possibly notarized, must be carried with them. In addition, a copy of the legal guardian's passport must be attached to the confirmation. Failure to comply with passport, visa and health regulations may result in embarkation being denied or significant costs for the respective passenger. If a cruise cannot be started due to missing documents, the travel price will not be refunded.
More general information on entry and visa regulations: In addition to the period of validity, the passport for entry and exit in many countries outside of Europe the passportmust have two opposite blank pages for each country. Please check your passport for the necessary requirements. Several countries have established import regulations for certain medicines.
Any entry and visa fees are not included in the tour price. Possibly a (group) visa will be applied for upon arrival of the ship in individual countries.If this is subject to a fee, the resulting fees will be charged to your onboard account. Your travel agency will be glad to help you obtain individual visas.
Passenger manifest
For all cruises with the VASCO DA GAMA, the cruise line requires certain information from you before the start of the cruise in order to create a passenger manifest. It contributes to the faster official release of the ship in the various ports and shortens waiting times for you. The information on this passenger manifest is subject to data protection. You will receive your log-in data for the online entry of the manifest data with your booking confirmation.
Travel documents
The travel documents are ready to be mailed approx. 14 days before departure and will be sent to you immediately after receipt of payment. Short-term bookings as of two weeks before the start of the cruise or bookings at last-minute rates are sent exclusively by e-mail. In addition to the vouchers for booked services, the travel documents contain important information such as embarkation instructions.In individual cases, the arrival of the documents can be delayed until a few days before departure.    

Guests with physical limitations
Your ship offers you the greatest possible comfort, but of course you will find stairs and narrow doors and corridors. Even the entry or exist across the mostly narrow gangways is not always at ground level and, depending on the tidal range, very steep. If you cannot overcome these obstacles on your own, a cruise on this ship is not recommended.
We ask for your understanding if, in some cases, tenders or shore leave may be refused for reasons of security. The decision on this is made by the captain. The crew is of course helpful, but please note that the employees on board are not trained nursing staff and are not allowed to take on any nursing activities. If you have a restriction that prevents you from participating in the rescue exercise, please also inform us of this before you start your cruise.
If you need special assistance, you must travel with a companion. The ship is not barrier-free.
Guests who are dependent on a wheelchair must bring their own foldable wheelchair. Please note that the number of guests who are dependent on a wheelchair per cruise is limited for safety reasons and embarkation may be refused without prior notification. For safety reasons and to check the requirements, please inform us of any special needs, limited mobility or other physical restrictions prior to booking.
