Carnival Elation - a ship that carries the enthusiasm in the name

Enjoy a musical in the evening and then let the melodies fade away under a starry sky? The Carnival Elation delights with great stage shows, but also offers quiet moments in the spacious Serenity area with sea views. Art seminars and auctions provide exciting cultural moments on board.

The Elation of the Carnival Cruise Line is a ship for relaxation, entertainment and culture. The "Cole Porter Club" and the theater "The Mikado" are the centers of entertainment. A gallery shows inspiring art and in the dignified library "Mark Twain" you can browse fantastic adventure stories.

In October 2017, the Elation was renewed and won in June 2018 a TravelAgeWest Wave Award for Best Refurbished Cruise Ship. Since then, small bars with Mexican and Caribbean ambience spoil up to 2,130 passengers. In combination with the cultural offers, they provide everyone with a varied stay.

Before the cruise

Age limit
Passengers under 21 years under the age of 21 must be accompanied by a parent, grandparent or legal guardian who is at least 25 years of age and staying in the same cabin. Infants must be at least 6 months old. On Hawaii and transatlantic cruises, children must be at least 12 months old.
Cabin occupancy
Children under 13 years of age must be booked in the same cabin with at least one parent, in the cabin directly next to or opposite the parents' cabin. Children may only be accommodated alone in a balcony cabin if they are older than 13 years. The serving and sale of alcoholic beverages to passengers under 21 years of age is not permitted.
Pregnant passengers
Of course, pregnant women are also welcome. However, please note that for your own safety and that of your unborn child, participation in the cruise is only possible if the 24th week has not yet begun at the end of the cruise. A confirmation from your doctor that you are allowed to take part in the cruise is required in all cases.
Vaccination
The Zika virus is spread primarily by mosquitoes, which are active primarily during the day. Symptoms of Zika usually develop 3-12 days after the bite. These can include fever, headache, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis (red eyes). The disease is usually harmless and lasts 2-7 days, and most infected people do not experience any symptoms.
In recent times, pregnant women suspected of being infected with the Zika virus have given birth to children with abnormal conditions. The CDC advises women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant not to travel to affected destinations. There is no vaccine to prevent the virus, but you can reduce the risk of contracting Zika by doing the following:

• Wear insect repellent that contains any of the following active ingredients: DEET, picaridin (KBR 3023), lemon oil eucalyptus / PMD, or IR3535. • Wear a loose, long-sleeved shirt and long pants, preferably light-colored, to minimize the chance of being bitten. If you are planning a cruise and are pregnant, do not hesitate to contact us.

During the cruise

Medical care on board
Should you require medical assistance while on board, please contact the medical staff, who are available 24 hours a day. The medical facilities aboard Carnival ships meet or exceed the standards for medical facilities established by the International Council of Cruise Lines and the American College of Emergency Physicians. The medical staff are trained in the areas of emergency medicine and/or general medicine and can also provide first aid in the event of cardiac arrest.
The doctors on board are independent contractors. They therefore invoice the services provided separately. The costs for the services provided and other medical services will be charged to your Sail & Sign account. Should hospitalisation, surgery or treatment for a serious illness become necessary, the cruise line will arrange for you to be transported to a hospital on land. Weather or location may limit or delay transportation to land facilities. If you need to be transported to a shore hospital, Carnival will not be responsible for the cost of that treatment. In any case, it is advisable that you take out international health insurance, which guarantees that you will be reimbursed for unexpected medical costs up to the agreed amount. If you are currently suffering from a serious medical condition, please discuss this with your family docor before embarkation.
If you become ill with an infection or suspect that you have a contagious disease, you are obliged to report this to the onboard medical station for the safety of all fellow passengers.

Medication
Always carry your medication with you (handbag) so that it is available in case of an emergency. Please do not leave necessary medication in the checked baggage as you will not have access to it at all times.
If you take prescription medications, vitamins or other medications on a regular basis, please bring an appropriate supply on board with you as not all medications are available in all ports of call. The most common medications can be purchased from the ship doctor's office.

Seasickness
Seasickness is rare on large ships like ours. All ships are equipped with stabilizers that keep the ship steady in the water. If you do feel unwell, ask your cabin steward, the information desk or the infirmary for appropriate medication.
Accessibility at sea
Communication with the ship
If you need to contact someone on board in an emergency, you can use a fee-based collective number for all ships.
Please note that you cannot contact the ship directly.
The number is: 001-732-335-3284
Costs around USD 9.50/minute

The following information is required:

Name of the ship
Name of customers
Cabin number

After providing the required information, you will be forwarded to the guest service desk of the respective ship.

Use your mobile phone for calls on board
You can use your cell phone for calls on board. You can use your cell phone aboard the Carnival fleet. This should be tri-band capable. Please note that the international roaming charges of your respective provider apply here. Your cell phone operator can give you more information about this.
Making calls from the ship
You can call your friends and family directly from your cabin using a satellite phone at any time. Information and instructions as well as a list of charges can be found in the ship's address book in your cabin. Please note that communication at sea is via satellite and is therefore very expensive. It is not possible to use phone cards, credit cards or make collect calls.
Use of the internet on board
The Internet Café on board is open 24 hours and offers you the opportunity to go online whenever you want. Of course, the entire fleet has Wi-Fi hroughout the ship. This means you can log in to the internet from anywhere, be it from a public area or even from your own cabin, with your laptop, tablet or mobile phone. The cruise line has improved the speed of the internet connection and can now offer you a much higher speed at a lower price. The internet packages can be booked for either a day or for the entire duration of the cruise (cheaper package price when booking the entire cruise - price varies according to the cruise duration). The package can be used on different devices (e.g. mobile phone, laptop or tablet), but not on several devices at the same time.

You have the choice between 3 packages (approximate information, subject to availability, price when booking via your online cruise manager before the cruise for the entire cruise).
- Social Internet: USD 18.17/day, access to popular social media websites and apps such as Facebook, What's App and Instagram (no access to the entire Internet).
- Value Internet: 22.10 USD/day, full Internet access. Ideal for checking e-mails, reading the news, etc. No broadband-intensive services such as Skype or music streaming possible.
 - Premium Internet package: 23.80 USD/day, access to the internet up to three times faster, Skype possible.
- Premium Multi Device Internet package: USD 84.00 per person/day. Identical to the Premium Internet package, but can be used on several devices at the same time.

The package prices for the entire cruise are more expensive on board than when booked in advance. Write postcards to your loved ones
You can simply hand in postcards at the information desk on board.
You can also get local stamps there. According to the postal regulations of the various ports, for postcards you must use the stamps valid there.

Guests with special needs
Wheelchair users
The ships have cabins specially designed for wheelchair users. As with all Carnival Cruise Line cabins, these cabins are assigned according to the date the booking. It is therefore advisable to book disabled and wheelchair accessible cabins well in advance. There are two different classes of cabins:
Cabins for people with disabilities:
These cabins differ from the standard cabins through the extended door frames. The cabin passage is approx. 74 cm wide. The door frame to the bathroom has a width of 56 cm to 74 cm. The cabins are designed for guests with reduced mobility and for guests who require a wheelchair for longer distances.
Wheelchair accessible cabins:
These cabins have door widths of approx. 80 cm everywhere. There are no steps to the bathroom, the showers are wheelchair accessible and have folding seats. In addition, there is the possibility of turning in a wheelchair in the cabins. These cabins are reserved for guests who use (electric) wheelchairs or guests with reduced mobility. For safety reasons, wheelchairs may not be parked in the aisles, but must be kept in the cabins.
In some ports, all passengers are brought ashore by small boats (tender boats). Some of these tenders may not be wheelchair accessible or certain weather conditions may make the wheelchair tendering process difficult. In such cases, the ship's officers will make the decision as to whether or not the guest can be safely brought ashore by tender, taking into account the safety of the guests.
Tender ports are: Cabo San Lucas, Catalina California, Catalina Dominican Republic, Cannes France, Belize, Half Moon Cay Bahamas, Grand Cayman, Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa (Mexico), Kona (Hawaii), Newport Rhode Island, Sitka (Alaska).
Possible tender ports are: Cozumel, Ketchikan, Dubrovnik, Katakolon.
If you require assistance with embarkation and disembarkation, Carnival Cruise Line will gladly provide you with a wheelchair. Please register these as they are only available in limited quantities. Wheelchairs can also be borrowed on board; there is no guarantee that you will be able to use the wheelchair uninterruptedly. Wheelchairs from the ship may not be taken off board.
People with diabetes /medical storage
If you are traveling with injectable medicine and require a container for storage, please contact the medical station or your stateroom steward on board..The cabins are equipped with minibars, which are intended to cool drinks. Please do not use the minibars to store medicines that require a special temperature. If you have any medication that requires special cooling, please contact reception where you will have access to a cooling machine 24 hours a day.
Ships with minibars are: Carnival Conquest, Dream, Freedom, Glory, Legend, Liberty, Magic, Miracle, Pride, Spirit, Splendor, and Valor.
Diet food
Carnival Cruise Line can accommodate guests with the following special dietary requirements: vegetarian, low-cholesterol, low-fat, low-carbohydrate, reduced-sugar, gluten-free, Indian vegetarian, and kosher. If you have any allergies, please contact the kitchen/service staff on board.
Dialysis
Carnival cannot provide dialysis machines for guests requiring blood dialysis. However, we gladly have guests onboard who require peritoneal (self) dialysis. In this case, guests must bring their own devices and medication and store them in the cabin.
Deaf/hard of hearing
In-cabin notification systems are available upon request. This includes: vibrating alert for danger. The cabin phones are equipped with PA amplifiers. Infrared systems are available in the show lounges on some ships.
Blind
Braille signs are available on some of the ships. Braille and large print formats are available with prior notice for the following documents: important in-cabin notices, cruise ticket contract and the welcome booklet. Guests are also offered the daily onboard newspaper, Carnival Capers, in audio format with advance notice.
Guide dogs
Carnival Cruise Line allows on board guide dogs that are specially trained. However, please note that many of our ports-of-call have very strict  animal pölicies. Therefore, guests with guide dogs wishing to disembark in the ports should contact the US Department of Agriculture for specific destination and country regulations.

Documents and papers

Travel documents
A passport is required for all cruises (also within Europe), which must be valid for at least 6 months more.
For all cruises, the travel documents for all ports of call must be met. In addition, please note in any case the travel documents for the USA.

Entry requirements for German citizens in the USA

US Visa Waiver Program
German citizens participate in the USA visa waiver program and can travel to the USA as tourists, business travelers or for transit purposes, for a period of up to 90 days, without a visa if they:
- are in possession of a travel document that entitles them to participate,
- arrive with a regular airline or cruise company,
- can present proof of a return or onward flight ticket (which – except for permanent residents in these countries – may not end in Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean Islands), valid for a period of max. 90 days from the first entry into the USA and
-have an electronic entry permit (“Electronic System for Travel Authorization”-ESTA-, see explanations below).

Entry by land from Canada or Mexico is also possible as part of the “Visa Waiver” program. Upon entry by land, there is no obligation to present a return or onward flight ticket or an electronic entry permit. Even the compliance with the above criteria for participation in the "Visa Waiver" program does not justify entry to the USA. The responsible US border official makes the final decision upon entry. If you are traveling to the USA for another reason or if you do not meet one of the above requirements, a visa is generally required - for example if you:

- plan to do paid or unpaid work in the USA (including au pairs or jobs that are only carried out temporarily in the USA, e.g. journalists),
- plan to visit a training center (including a language school),
- participate in an exchange program
- carry out research,
- want to get married in the USA and then live there,
- do not enter by a regular means of transportation (e.g. sailors, pilots; also applies to overseas territories),
- have not received an electronic entry permit (see explanations below)

According to a decision by the US government, Swiss and EU citizens who have visited one of the countries Iraq, Iran, Sudan and Syria after March 1, 2011, also need a visa even if they have a valid ESTA permit. Entry via the Visa Waiver Program is not possible in these cases. The same applies to Swiss and EU citizens who also hold passports from Iraq, Iran, Sudan and Syria. A visa is also required for entry here.
The visa is to be applied for at the responsible US Embassy or the responsible US General. Consulate.
In the case of visa-free entry, the actually permitted length of stay is determined individually by the US border official. A later extension of the residence permit - if, for example, your departure is delayed due to unforeseen circumstances - is not possible! If you entered the country with a visa, any office of the immigration authority BCIS can approve an extension of your stay! The date on which you have to leave the USA at the latest will be stamped into your passport upon entry (“admitted until xx-xx-xx”. Please note the American date format – the month is first, then the day: ' 3-10′ is March 10, not October 3!)

Travel documents/visa
Every traveler, including children of all ages, need their own travel document.
The travel document must be valid for the entire duration of your stay (i.e. at least until the day you leave the USA).

Travel documents
Tavelers, including children of all ages, need their own travel document. The travel document must be valid for the entire duration of your stay (i.e. at least up to and including the day you leave the USA).
Payment methods
To make it easier for you to pay on board, most of your onboard purchases will be charged to your Sail & Sign account. The required form will be provided with your travel documents or is part of the onboard manifest. The Sail & Sign account can be activated either by credit card or cash. Carnival accepts the following credit cards on board: American Express, Visa, MasterCard, Diners.
Cash accounts are recommended to have a deposit that varies depending on the duration of the cruise:

2 to 4-day cruises: $100
5 to 8-day cruises: $200
9 day cruises or longer: $350

Please note that the onboard currency is the US dollar and no money can be exchanged on board. However, there are ATMs available wherefrom you can withdraw US dollars. Please remember, however, that towards the end of the cruise, the cash in these accounts may run out.

- USD 18.00 per person and day for suites
