Kom Ombo / Egypt

The Temple of Kom Ombo is (kom Arabic for small mountain) is a so-called double temple. Worshipped were the gods Sobek and Haroeris (Horus the Old). The relief decoration is very well preserved. Very beautiful and well-preserved images of the goddess Nekhbet (vulture goddess, protectress of way) are located on the architraves.

The Temple of Kom Ombo is located on abn elevation right on the banks of the Nile. From the temple one has a beautiful view of the Nile and the surrounding fields.Interesting is still a deep well on the temple grounds. Contrary to the statements of guides that here sacred crocodiles are kept, it probably just served for the water extraction.Kom Ombo is the new home of the Nubians, who were expelled from the rising Nasser water from their ancestral villages. The Egyptian government has built for them new villages in particular here near Kom Ombo with much effort and success. Here they have taken into account the settlement patterns of Upper Egypt and even aligned name and arrangement for the model.
