Before the cruise

Excursions
For every river journey nicko cruises offers an excursion package for booking in advance with interesting excursions that we particularly recommend (for some cruises, excursions are already included in the travel price, please note the respective description. Optionally more excursions can be booked locally, these are often tied to a minimum number of participants. 
Unless otherwise stated, the excursions usually take place with a maximum group size of 30 to 50 participants.
If you do not take part in an excursion you have booked (whether in advance in the package or directly on board), a refund of the costs is not possible. Please note that there may be delays and changes in the excursion program, such as changes to the exit or boarding point, due to high or low water, certain weather conditions, changes in the allocation of berths ay the destination ports or waiting times at the locks.

Train rides
With your reservation you have the possibility to book train vouchers including bus transfer railway station-ship- railway station. This transfer is included for you in connection with a train ride booked through nicko cruises (exception: KRIMItotalDinner, YouDinner, Musical Dinner, Udo meets Helene Show).
The following applies to the train stations in Dresden, Frankfurt, Cologne, Münster, Nuremberg, Passau, Potsdam and Stralsund: If you book your trainr arrival via nicko cruises, please take a taxi to the pier directly at the embarkation point at the official embarkation time and ask for a receipt. The taxi costs will be reimbursed to you on board by the cruise line upon presentation of the taxi receipt. In case of late arrival, please use local public transportation or taxis at your own expense. Train  that you book through nicko cruises are only valid for the days printed on the tickets. Seat reservation is included in the ticket free of charge in both 2nd and 1st class.
If you have booked your tickets yourself or made a seat reservation, you are not entitled to a refund in the event of any changes to the schedule or delays on the ships or flights on the return ride or if you interrupt  or cancel your cruise.
Passenger is responsible for their timely arrival at the embarkation point or at the airport.
We ask for your understanding that the nicko cruises river boats cannot wait for late guests. Travel insurance with delay protection is recommended for any additional costs that may arise (e.g. hotel costs or additional transfer costs to the next port).
If trains are canceled or delayed, the Deutsche Bahn AG is your contact.
We recommend that you have delays / cancellations confirmed by Deutsche Bahn staff.

Language on board
The onboard language on all nicko cruises ships is German and English. (on the MEKONG NAVIGATOR, the onboard language is English only)As nicko cruises increasingly opens up to the international market, it may happen on certain departures that foreign-language tour groups are on board. In such cases, information is provided over the loudspeaker or during evening events in addition to German or English, as well as in the tour group's respective foreign language.
Embarkation and disembarkation
With your travel documents you will receive detailed embarkation information with the exact berth at the embarkation location. Ships must occasionally change their berths at short notice despite officially confirmed berths. If you arrive individually, please pay attention to local information boards.
With the well-organized arrival packages by bus, train or plane, you will be taken directly to your ship. Please note the exact embarkation times. Even if the ship docks earlier in the port, the crew has to use the time to "clear the ship"
You can therefore only board your ship at the specified embarkation time. Your luggage can be collected at the earliest as of 13.00..
First aid on board / health
On all 12- / 15- / 17-day Danube cruises there is a doctor on board who can provide first aid in emergencies. Of course, doctors on land can also be reached at short notice.
The services of the onboard doctors and any medication administered are billed on site.
The onboard staff (e.g. at the reception) are not allowed to dispense any medication. Please remember to take a sufficient supply of medicines that you need constantly in your hand luggage.Even commonly needed medicines such as headache pills. No liability is accepted for medicines carried in suitcases.
The cruise line recommends that you take out international health insurance including medical repatriation. All ships are subject to high hygiene regulations, which are constantly monitored by the ship management. For your own safety, the cruise line has set up hand disinfection devices at various points on board, which every guest should use as often as possible to avoid unintentional spread of pathogens on the ship. Oxygen equipment can be taken on board upon request on many ships.
However, please note that there may be temporary power fluctuations on board. Carrying oxygen bottles on buses is strictly prohibited.

Flights
Flights that are part of your nicko cruises are carefully planned  and booked by renowned airlines. On the one hand, nicko cruises has to take into account schedules and availability of the companies, but in the case of connecting flights, there are also predetermined and sensible transitional periods, which allow you and your luggage to reach the connecting flight.
If the booking class or airline calculated by nicko cruises is fully booked at the time of your booking request, they will offer you a higher-priced booking class. Flight times stated by nicko cruises before your travel documents are issued are non-binding, since you have no influence on any changes to these times by the airlines.
Please note that flight rebooking requests must be checked and fees may apply for the rebooking. So-called direct flights mean that intermediate landings are possible, but these are not connected with a change of aircraft (unlike with transfer connections). An arrival and departure day is not a relaxing vacation day and due to flight times it is quite possible that arrival on board is late in the evening (or after midnight) and departure at the end of the cruise may be early in the morning.
If your luggage has not arrived with you at the destination airport, the airline is your contact. It is imperative that you contact the Lost & Found counter in the baggage hall immediately. The local colleagues of the airlines need your boarding pass and baggage claim to be able to file a loss report. Please keep this notice of loss in a safe place, because any further investigations can only be made with the reference number provided. In general, German-speaking staff can be reached at every airline via the respective hotline, from which you can obtain information on how luggage can be delivered on board.
 
Guests with physical restrictions
Your ship offers you the greatest possible comfort, but of course you will find stairs and narrow doors and corridors. Even the entry via the mostly narrow gangways is not always at ground level; it can also happen that the ships are "packed" and you have to go via another ship to get to your actual ship.In some cases, entry into the ship is via the sun deck.
In principle, none of the river boats are barrier-free.
If you require special assistance, you must travel with a companion. The crew is of course helpful, but please keep in mind that the staff are not trained nurses and are not allowed to take on any nursing activities. Please inform us of any restrictions before booking.
The cruise line will advise you individually as to whether a river cruise is suitable for you.

Luggage
The maximum weight of your luggage is 23 kg per piece. If you arrive by plane, the free baggage allowance of the respective airline applies. Nicko Cruises accepts no liability for transportation damage caused by loading or unloading luggage that exceeds the maximum weight of 23 kg. Please note that your empty luggage must be stowed in your cabin. The storage space provided under the beds is suitable for suitcases with a maximum height of 23 centimeters. Your luggage may only contain personal items. It is forbidden to bring weapons, knives, alcohol, or drugs on board. For security reasons, it is not permitted to bring food and drinks on board. This also applies to anything purchased for consumption during shore excursions.
Luggage service for travelers by train
If the embarkation and disembarkation of your river cruise takes place within Germany or in Basel, you can have your luggage conveniently and reliably sent directly from your front door to the ship and back again with the TEfra luggage service. Should it ever come to a loss or damage to a piece of luggage, the partner TEfra Travel Logistics is your contact.
Dress code
During the day on board and during shore excursions, nicko cruises recommends casual, sporty clothing. You should wear non-slip shoes on the outside decks. Nicko cruises also recommends a sweater for cooler evenings and sturdy, comfortable shoes for shore excursions. Don't forget a hat, sunglasses, and rain gear. Please bear in mind that the customs of the countries you visit often differ, many of which have religious roots. Churches, monasteries, temples, and mosques are primarily places of worship. Please choose your clothing accordingly. Shorts, short skirts, and sleeveless tops are especially unsuitable. Smart attire is requested for dinner. A more formal attire is also welcome for the gala dinner.
Shore excursions
Shore excursions organized and put together by nicko cruises take you to the main attractions along your itinerary. Of course, you can also explore your holiday destination on your own. Leaving your ship is always possible when the authorities and the captain have officially released the ship and the appropriate announcement has been made.
 Any additional costs (such as hotel costs or additional transfer costs to the next port) will not be covered.
Please refer to the daily program for the when you should be back on board. Due to the registered berth and lock times, a ship cannot wait for delayed passengers.
Any additional costs that may arise (such as hotel costs or additional transfer costs to the next port) will not be covered by nicko cruises.

Services not included in the travel price
Please note that the following services are not included in the travel prices: individual arrival and departure, excursions - if these are not already included in the travel price, insurance, drinks, gratuities (recommendation € 5, - to € 7, - per person / day), other personal expenses.
Smoking
Smoking is permitted only on the outer decks (on some ships there also only in marked areas). All inside areas of all ships such as restaurants, salons, cabins, aisles, are non-smoking areas.
Itinerary / details of the travel dates
For cruises that take place only once during the 2025 season, the specific travel date and the individual days of the week are specified in the travel description.
For travel dates with different (or rotating) days of the week, day 1 and the following days in the itinerary mean the travel date that the cruise line has specified as travel date.
Vaccinations
Please inquire with your family doctor in good time before the start of your cruise about infection and vaccination protection as well as other prophylactic measures. If special vaccinations are absolutely necessary on your itinerary, the cruise line will explicitly point this out under the "important travel information" in the price section of the respective itinerary. Each guest is responsible for complying with the health policy requirements of the destination countries.
Pregnant guests
Participation in the cruise is possible up to the 28th week of pregnancy, provided there is no high-risk pregnancy.
Animals / Bicycles
Please understand that due to the space conditions, unfortunately no pets and bicycles are allowed on board.
Transfers
If you have booked a river cruise with train arrival via nicko cruises, the transfer to the ship and to the train station on the day of disembarkation is included in the cruise price (exception: KRIMItotalDINNER, YouDinner, Musical Dinner, Udo meets Helene Show).
The exact meeting point at the respective train station will be communicated to you with your travel documents.
Please note the detailed embarkation instructions in your travel documents. If you have booked a river cruise with flight arrival via nicko cruises, a transfer to the ship is available for you in front of the airport building and a tour guide will be waiting for you behind the baggage claim area  Since sometimes guests from several flights that land in quick succession transfer together, there may also be waiting times before the bus departs. Your local tour guide will gladly provide you with information.
Gratuities
It is international practice for a satisfied guest to reward the services of the staff accordingly. The amount of the gratuity is of course free for each guest and should be the recognition for the good performance of the service staff.
The cruise line recommends €10,- to €13,- per guest and per night for the crew aboard the ships. (except MEKONG and NAVIGATOR. Here the gratuities on board are already included in the cruise price). This does not include the nicko cruises cruise management, local tour guides or bus drivers. However, you are more than welcome to thank them with a gratuity.

During the cruise

Electronic devices
Irons, kettles, hair straighteners, immersion heaters and similar devices may not be used in the cabins for safety reasons. All ships have hair dryers in the cabins. The voltage in your cabin is 220 volts. German plugs can be used on almost all nicko cruises ships without a country adapter.
You will receive more information with your travel documents.
Internet on board
On many nicko cruises ships Internet reception in the form of Wi-Fi can be booked for a fee at the front desk or from by the cruise manager. Continuous reception cannot always be guaranteed; subsections may experience temporary network coverage interruptions. The cruise line asks for you understanding that reimbursement of costs due to interruptions is not possible. In order to ensure a stable Internet service, there are limitations of certain streaming providers and internet services.If you have any questions, the staff at the front desk is at your disposal.
Cabins
You will usually receive your cabin number with the booking confirmation. We will gladly accept your non-binding cabin request when booking, but details of cabin numbers are expressly not part of the contract.
Ship-typical noises and smells, such as from the ship's engine, the air conditioning or ventilation, etc. can be heard in almost all rooms. The cabins marked "aft" are located at the rear of the ship. In these cabins, engine noise can be heard more when the ship is sailing.
In the cabins, which are located in the front part of the ship, increased noise from the bow thruster can be heard during docking maneuvers and when passing through locks. All cabins are outside cabins; either with private or French balcony, panorama window (can partly be opened) or porthole. Small restricted visibility due to stairways or balcony efforts are possible.

Children on board
Children under the age of 16 travel free on selected ships when accompanied by two full-paying guests if they are accommodated in a 2-bed cabin with an extra bed (limited offer; only BELVEDERE, BOLERO, VIKTORIA, MAXIMA, CELINA and PRINCESS). Children from the age of 16 travel for 80 euros per night in a 2-bed cabin with an extra bed. Accompanied by only one full-paying adult, children under the age of 16 receive a 50% discount on the cabin price (not  valid on the MEKONG NAVIGATOR and in Egypt).
Despite these options, our cruises are generally not suitable for children. No special entertainment programs, childcare, toys, child seats, or cribs are offered on board. Children under 3 years of age are not permitted on board (except on PRINCESS: children are permitted on board from the age of 6, or earlier if they can swim). Children under 12 years of age receive a 20% discount on the excursion package, as well as on optional excursions that can be booked on board. This applies to all our high-risk ships (except PRINCESS). Excluded are all cruises where we only have a limited number of passengers and additional bookings are made on ships (Steigenberger ships, MEKONG NAVIGATOR, JAZ NILE MONARCH).
Multiple-bed cabins
On some nicko cruises ships, we offer the option of booking cabins for three people. These cabins are not necessarily more spacious than conventional double cabins. The third bed is a mobile extra bed. The price for the third person over the age of 16 is 80 euros per night.
Piers
Every ship has a berth in every port, which the authorities generally assign at short notice or which can be changed at short notice. This is not always in the center. Often this is not the first place at the pier, but is "in a package" - there are several ships lying alongside each other. In this case, you may only be able to see the neighboring ship from your cabin window during the lay time and this may result in noise and odor nuisance. When you go ashore, the route may go over or through other vessels. Please note that pontons and quay walls can also impair visibility during the lay period.
Ship amenities
On every nicko cruises river ship you will find a cozy lounge with a wonderful view of the passing landscapes. Music often is played there in the evenings, while informational events and entertainment programs take place here during the day (varies depending on the ship). On some ships there are also smaller lounges that are suitable for reading and playing in small groups.
Some of the ships also have small fitness areas that you can use free of charge. Massages for a fee are available on the MEKONG NAVIGATOR . Use is at your own risk.On the sun decks of the ships you will always find chairs, tables and usually loungers as well as sun shades. Please understand that the number is limited and there is a maximum possible equipment for the deck area.Please note: the nicko cruises ships are not wheelchair accessible
Telephone
On many nicko cruises ships it is possible to make calls from cabin to cabin. Telephoning is possible on land via a satellite connection. However, the costs are quite high and nicko cruises recommends that you use your own mobile phone if you want to call home. Please check roaming charges with your mobile operator before the cruise. 
Drinking water
Since fresh water is always stored in tanks aboard the ships, nicko cruises recommends that you do not drink tap water but buy mineral water from the bar or restaurant. To brush your teeth, the water is safely suitable.
Exception nickoVISION: on this ship, the tap water has drinking water quality.

TV
Ships that have televisions work with a satellite system so that television coverage is ensured for much of the route. Short-term reception problems can occur when passing bridges and while staying in locks as well as on certain other sections of the route.
Nicko cruises strives to ensure at least one German-language broadcaster everywhere which may not always be possible in certain regions.
Meals
Aboard all nicko cruises ships, full board is part of your cruise and is described in detail in the services of your cruise (except Croatia). Depending on the itinerary, the meals are also enriched with local elements. Breakfast is served in buffet-style on all ships. (except Croatia: extended continental breakfast, partly served). At lunchtime, a light lunch is served in the salon or on the sun deck (exceptions: Elbe, Croatia, USA, and Egypt), or you can enjoy snacks from the grill station (depending on the daily program on BELVEDERE, BOLERO, CELINA, MAXIMA, and VIKTORIA).
Lunch is usually served at your table, and dinner is always served. Selected meals are sometimes also offered in buffet-style. Meals on board are served at a set time. Exceptions are the nickoVISION and nickoSPIRIT, where you can enjoy meals at flexible times and without assigned seating at three different restaurants, and on the AMERICAN QUEEN, where you will have dinner during the second seating. Unfortunately, table reservations are not possible upon booking. Please inform us of any special diets or food intolerances when booking. Appropriate meals can usually be prepared for you. The cruise line apologizes for any inconveniences that may arise in Croatia, the USA, Egypt, or Asia, or on flights.
Valuables
Some of the cabins have a small safe box where you can lock your valuables. A collective safe is available at reception on some ships. Nevertheless, nicko cruises recommends that you do not take things of value, such as expensive jewellery, etc. with you on your cruise in the first place. You sometimes visit regions of the world where, by your standards, low prosperity is already wealth and the presentation of supposedly precious things could arouse covetousness. Valuables such as cameras, jewellery, cash and other valuables must be carried in your hand luggage. The cruise line points out that nicko cruises is not liable for valuables lost in unattended checked-in luggage.

Documents and papers

Passport / visa
Please check well in advance of your cruise to ensure that all necessary papers and documents are valid. The cruise line draws your attention to the fact that you are responsible for obtaining your required travel documents, visas, and compliance with vaccination requirements. People of other nationalities should contact their respective consulate or travel agency in a timely manner. Failure to comply with passport and visa regulations may result in denial of embarkation or significant costs for the passenger. If a cruise cannot be started due to missing documents,there is no refund of the cruise price.
Visas for German citizens are required for cruises to Egypt and Asia. Visas are not included in the travel service (exception: Egypt if flights are booked through nicko cruises), and each guest is responsible for obtaining them themselves. You can obtain visas for Asia either directly from the relevant consulate/embassy service center or by using a visa service. If you would like to use a visa service, the cruise line will gladly recommend one. You will receive the relevant application with your travel confirmation, at least three months before departure. The visa for Egypt is issued upon entry. Please also inform yourself about the applicable customs regulations along your route before departure.
Passenger manifest
For cruises to Croatia, Egypt and Asia, nicko cruises requires certain information from you before the start of the cruise in order to create a passenger manifest It contributes to the faster official release of the ship in the various ports and shortens waiting times for you.The information on this passenger manifest is subject to data protection. You will receive more information with the booking confirmation.For all other voyages, the manifest is drawn up on board by the ship's staff; this is also a requirement for voyages within the EU.Therefore, the identity card / passport will be collected upon embarkation. It is not necessary to enter your passport data before the start of your cruise.
Mail
You can usually hand in your mail on board. Usually the mail is sent in the next port. You can buy postcards and stamps at the reception on board, but note that the prices on board are usually more expensive than on land.
Travel documents
The travel documents are ready for dispatch approx. 21 days before departure and will be sent to you after receipt of payment and - where required - the passenger manifest data. Short-term bookings as of two weeks before the start of the cruise or bookings at the last-minute rate are sent exclusively by e-mail. In addition to the vouchers for booked services (only if you have booked a hotel, parking space or train ride), the travel documents contain important Information, such as embarkation instructions. In individual cases, the arrival of the documents may be delayed until a few days before departure.
Route and service changes
River cruises are dependent on nature - for example, heavy rains and prolonged drought can adversely affect the water level at short notice. Due to high and low water, certain weather conditions or delays in lock and bridge passages it may be necessary to change the travel itinerary. Strikes can also lead to route and service changes.
In the extreme case, nicko cruises will use another available means of transportation for impassable river routes or the cruise line will accommodate you at a hotel. Certain program items may thus not be considered. Nicko cruises also reserves the right to change the order of the ports-of- call.
Insurance certificate
Your travel price is covered according to the EU directives. You will receive the travel price secured payment certificate with your nicko cruises travel confirmation.
Means of paymnent on board
Depending on the destination, the onboard currencies are different. You can pay for drinks you have consumed and excursion booked on board at the end of your cruise The means of payment on board are indicated on the pages of the respective ship features. If you want to pay in cash, this can only be done in the respective onboard currency as payment transactions with euros are sometimes not permitted or not possible.
Please note: Money cannot be exchanged on board. Your cruise manager will show you the possibility of a currency exchange on your first landing. In some circumstances, international fees may be incurred by your bank or credit card company for card payments, as the ships do not always sail under the German flag.

- Aswan: visit of the Aswan Dam on Lake Nasser, the granite quarry with the unfinished obelisk, visit of the Philae Temple on the island of Agilkia; Felucca ride to Kitchener Island with a visit to the Botanical Gardens
- Kom Ombo: visit to the double temple
- Edfu: visit to the Horus Temple
- Luxor: visit to Luxor and Karnak Temple; visit to some tombs in the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon
- Nag Hammadi: visit to the Dendera Temple and Temple of King Seti I in Abydos
- Tell el-Amarna: visit of Tell el-Amarna, sightseeing of Tuna el Gebel and Ashmunia
- Minia: visit to the rock tombs of Beni Hassan
