Omis / Croatia

Omiš is located in the south of Croatia, at the mouth of the river Cetina in the Adriatic Sea. Already in Roman antiquity there were several settlements in this area, including Oneum, which stretched in the area of today's Omiš. Because of its very secluded location, the city was once a favorite hiding place for pirates.

It is the period of Venetian domination since the Conquest of Omis' in 1444 that gave the city its still living Dalmatian-Venetian coinage. Among the most beautiful and most important witnesses of the city is the old Croatian church Sveti Petar. This single-domed building from the 10th century is now one of the most valuable monuments of Dalmatia from this period. The city is dominated by the imposing castle Omis that can be reached through a number of steps. As a reward for this short climb, once there, you can enjoy a breathtaking view over the city and the surrounding sea. Round off the day with a dinner in one of the romantic winding streets!
