Pöchlarn has history: the area has already been colonized 4000 BC. The city also plays a role in the Nibelungenlied and finally in modern times Pöchlarn entertains with the painter Oskar Kokoschka, who was born here.
North of town flows the beautiful Danube, in the west the tributary Erlauf. The boat landing is located northeast of the center, which can be reached in few minutes' walking distance.
