Port Louis is located in the north-west of the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean and is also the capital of the island. The city has a population of almost 200,000 inhabitants and is, through the French influence that still lasts until today, a French city outside France with a tropical climate. The port has long been an important port for navigation to Europe, but lost importance after the opening of the Suez Canal.

The harbor is nevertheless one of the city's sights, as it is still alive today and some colonial buildings are preserved. It is particularly lively in Chinatown (where, incidentally, a mosque stands), and also a visit to the market halls should by no means be absent.
In addition the building of the State Bank is remarkable, the citadel and the theatre from the 20th century.
There are also some museum, the Blue Penny Museum for philatelists with the famous Blue Mauritius or the Natural History Museum. For nature lovers, the garden of the East India Society offers a short stay, but for a longer time certainly a trip across the island. Even the mountain backdrop in the background invites you to a hike and rewards with magnificent views of the city. The beaches of the island are legendary - just see for yourself.
