Bornholm with its smaller island of Christiansø is Denmark's easternmost island. The Baltic Sea Island is located about 150 km southeast of Copenhagen, but only about 40 km from the south coast of Sweden. Bornholm was characterized by the Ice Age. In the glacier melting phase, a large river delta formed east of the capital. A larger level was created by flooding considerable amounts of sand.
