Before the cruise

Insurances
On a cruise there can always be events that are part of the general life risk. Therefore, please check your own insurance cover. In addition to global accident and personal liability insurance, we strongly recommend that you take out travel health insurance. This usually covers the costs for necessary medical treatments during your cruise.
Guests with individual impairments
The cruise line would like to make your holiday as relaxed and comfortable as possible which is why every AIDA ship has several disabled-friendly cabins. Unfortunately, some areas of the ship are not barrier-free accessible due to structural restrictions. If necessary, you can reserve a rollator or wheelchair for the entire duration of your holiday for a small fee on board or in advance via MyAIDA (limited number). It will then be available for you at reception on the day of your arrival. The possibility of taking part in shore excursions will be gladly examined with the agencies on board after individual consultation on board.
The cruise line points out that leaving the ship, e.g for participation on shore excursions, for guests with walking difficulties or wheelchair users depends on various factors (e.g. berth, water level, weather, but also wheelchair dimensions and weight) and is therefore not always possible. Please note that the total weight of wheelchair and occupant on AIDAaura, AIDAbella, AIDAcara, AIDAcosma, AIDAdiva, AIDAluna, AIDAmira, AIDAnova and AIDAvita is limited to 160 kg. In order to be able to use a wheelchair with a higher overall weight or an electric wheelchair on these ships, the occupant must be able to be transferred to a folding wheelchair available on board in an emergency. On AIDAblu, AIDAmar, AIDAperla, AIDAprima, AIDAsol and AIDAstella the maximum total weight is 200 kg. These ships can carry manual and most common electric wheelchairs. Here too, if the total weight is higher, a switch to a lighter wheelchair must be possible. The weight limit of 160 kg or 200 kg only applies to tidal ports. For hearing-impaired guests, inductive hearing systems are available at the reception and at designated places in the theater/theatrium. Free choice of seats in the theater on AIDAcosma, AIDAnova, AIDAperla and AIDAprima using a wireless system and mobile receiver.
Safety videos are captioned and important onboard information is presented in text form on the onboard television. We ask you to reserve cabin sets for visual and tactile perception of acoustic signals before your cruise, as capacity is limited. Orientation signage in profile and Braille is available on board for guests with visual impairments.
Safety information and deck floor plans are provided in Braille. Certified assistance and guide dogs can be brought on board under certain conditions.         ​  
Luggage
With regard to luggage, there are some limitations. Bicycles of every kind (including folding bicycles) must not be brought on board. Also the transportation of voluminous (sports) luggage, especially diving or golf equipment, cannot be guaranteed in any case (luggage cannot be stored in public areas and only to a limited extent in your cabin due to lack of space).
If you intend to carry appropriate (sports) luggage, please speak to the AIDA Customer Center before your departure. Your luggage may only contain items for personal use. Valuables (e.g. important documents, money, jewelery, photographic and cinematographic systems as well as portable video systems and mobile devices - such as laptops or tablets - each with accessories, etc.) must be kept personally and safely in the hand luggage by the traveler.
AIDA Cruises is expressly not liable for loss or damage of valuables that were carried in the check-in baggage as part of the arrival and departure. Please never leave your luggage unattended. In general, you are not allowed to take alcoholic beverages of any kind aboard the ship on the day of arrival. If you buy alcoholic beverages ashore during your journey to take them home as souvenirs, you may bring a maximum of 1 l per person over 18 years of age. In addition, in principle (both on arrival and during the journey) it is not allowed to bring food (in particular all meat, poultry and fish products, dairy products, fruits and vegetables) on board. As an exception, only professional / industrial dry goods, spices and sweets packaged by the manufacturer are considered.
It is not permitted to bring weapons, ammunition and explosives of all kinds on board. These include bats and stabbing weapons (e.g. batons, knives and daggers), firearms and their imitations and replicas, detonator and signal pistols, stun guns and irritant sprayers. In addition, all other items that can be used as a weapon (e.g. harpoons, diving knives and baseball bats) are prohibited. Folding knives with a blade length of up to 7 cm are allowed.
The transportation of dangerous chemicals (e.g. acids and flammable substances in unusual quantities) is prohibited, as well as the transportation of fireworks and objects that can pose a fire hazard through their heating element (e.g. electric kettle, electric blankets, irons and coffee machines). In addition, drones of all kinds, lasers, laser pointers and radios are not permitted on board for safety reasons. Unauthorized items are secured by employees against the issuance of a receipt and can be taken back by you at the end of the journey.
Hospital / medical care
If you suffer from chronic or serious illnesses, please contact AIDA Cruises no later than 4 weeks before the start of the cruise or if you book less than 4 weeks before the start of the cruise in order to coordinate the possibility of participating in an AIDA cruise and to discuss the general conditions. Each of our ships has a modern hospital (Deck 3, AIDAmira: Deck 7), where you will be looked after by doctors and medical specialists in the event of an illness. The office hours can be found in your daily program "AIDA Today". If you are under medical treatment or have special concerns, please contact the ship doctor at the start of the cruise. The services of the ship doctors are not part of the travel contract, and the ship doctors are not subject to the instructions of AIDA Cruises in their medical decisions. The treatment costs are registered to your onboard account. Settlement using a health insurance card or a foreign health certificate is not possible. At the end of each treatment you will receive a detailed hospital bill, which you can submit to your health insurance abroad for reimbursement. We strongly recommend taking out travel health insurance (see page 376 for details). Medical treatment on board is only possible to a limited extent. In the event of risk, the patient can be disembarked in the next port. The patient bears the costs for disembarkation and medical treatment. Where available, AIDA Cruises provides agency support in the event of medical disembarkation. Please make sure to dispose of medical waste (e.g. syringes for insulin, blood thinners) separately. Please contact the onboard hospital in this respect. If you need special medication, please bring it in sufficient quantities in your hand luggage on board. However, please note the EU directive about taking liquids in hand luggage.
Please also find out in good time whether there are import regulations for these medications in the destination countries and whether special requirements or documents must be observed. You can obtain information from your family doctor and on the Federal Foreign Office website (www.auswaertiges-amt.de). We apologize for the fact that AIDA cannot provide any information on this.

During the cruise

Board portal
During your cruise the myAIDA onboard portal is available free of charge on your smartphone, tablet or laptop (on AIDAcosma and AIDAnova also at public information terminals, on AIDAperla and AIDAprima at the public information terminals and via your cabin television). The free myAIDA onboard portal is experience advisor, travel planner, orientation aid and your shortest route to the AIDA online shop.
Travel portal MyAIDA
The practical travel portal MyAIDA provides you with many information and services for your AIDA cruise.Here you can, for example, reserve attractive offers for your favorite excursions, culinary highlights, drinks packages and spa treatments as well as onboard credit at leisure and, depending on availability, until just before the start of your cruise
Register your means of payment for your onboard bill already before the start of your cruise conveniently online via MyAIDA to avoid waiting times at the reception.

Cancellation policy
Services canceled before the start of the cruise will be credited to the original method of payment. Of course, you can book many of the services described in the catalog directly on board. Services canceled on board will only be billed to the cabin account, regardless of the payment method used and whether the service was selected in advance on myAIDA. The credit is made via the service recipient’s myAIDA onboard invoice
Trips
For all journeys AIDA offers exciting shore excursions. You can choose the desired trips depending on availability - until shortly before departure via MyAIDA, directly on board at the AIDA Scouts, who also advise you on the tours, or via the onboard portal.
The cruise line strives in all navigation areas for German-speaking travel guides. However, they are barely or not available in some countries. In this case, the trips are guided by English-speaking travel guides.
Excursion agencies comply with local standards. However, during a shore excursion there can always be events that are part of your own life risk. Therefore please also check your insurance protection.
In addition to its own accident and private liability insurance, the cruise line strongly recommends the conclusion of a foreign travel health insurance. This usually covers the costs of necessary medical treatment of illnesses that occur during the stay abroad.
The recommendation: it is best to book the AIDA complete protection of the travel insurance program of the insurance partner. So you can be on the safe side at all times.
Onboard currency
The onboard currency is the euro. At the same time, your boarding pass serves as a practical means of payment, cabin key and access to the ship. At the end of the cruise you can choose to pay by EC card (girocard / Maestro or V-Pay), in cash or with selected credit cards.
Vouchers can unfortunately not be used on board as a means of payment  Due to official and legal requirements, cash payments are only possible for deposit amounts below € 3,000 per person per day. Please register your payment method for your onboard invoice before the start of your cruise conveniently online via MyAIDA. This will help you avoid waiting times to read your debit or credit card at the reception. You are also welcome to register your means of payment yourself at the terminals opposite the reception.
AIDA Cruises reserves the right to check the validity of the debit or credit card used to pay the myAIDA onboard invoice and to reserve any amounts accumulated. In addition, AIDA Cruises also reserves the right to request a deposit for cash payments, undertake billings in the meantime and refuse certain types of payment on a case-by-case basis.This applies in particular in cases of missing or incomplete manifest data (address, date of birth, etc.). You can easily retrieve your MyAIDA onboard bill from home. The invoice is stored there shortly after the end of the cruise (usually after 2 - 3 days) for one year.
Our tip for business customers: if you use your internet access for business, you can print your myAIDA invoice independently of your onboard invoice at the reception. Please note that onboard bills cannot be issued to companies. The billing is exclusively done for the private traveling guest. Any subsequent bookings (debits or credits) after the final invoice are made separately and require a few days to complete.

Cabins
Depending on availability, there are a variety of cabin categories to choose from for your AIDA vacation - from the inside cabin to the balcony cabin with its own hammock to the spacious suite. The tip: Get excited about your cabin before you travel. All cabins are air-conditioned, carpeted and have a shower/WC, satellite TV, radio, hairdryer, safe, additional pillow and direct dial telephone. The 220 V connection in the bathroom is intended for the use of a shaver. There are showers and/or bathtubs in all suites. You can also order a mattress topper in the suites and choose your favorite from an exclusive pillow menu for a restful sleep.
All cabins are equipped with an electronically secured safe. The towels in your cabin can be exchanged for fresh ones at any time. To do this, simply place the towels on the floor. For a deposit you can get a fluffy pool towel on the pool deck (available without a deposit on AIDAcosma, AIDAnova, AIDAperla and AIDAprima). You can exchange this for a new one at any time during the cruise.
Your boarding pass will initially be charged with the deposit amount. When you return the pool towel at the end of the cruise, you will receive a credit for the deposit amount paid on your account. You protect the environment by reusing your towels. A bathrobe is available for you in the wellness area. You can also find bathrobes in all cabins on the ships.
Aboard AIDAbella, AIDAblu, AIDAcosma, AIDAdiva, AIDAluna, AIDAmar, AIDAnova, AIDAperla, AIDAprima, AIDAsol and AIDAstella you can enjoy interactive television with the information and entertainment system in your cabin. Using the keyboard and remote control, you can access all the information about your trip, the weather and current news from around the world - and book your favorite excursions. You can also get the latest film highlights on your cabin screen for a small fee. For ecological reasons, the ships are equipped with vacuum toilets in which no hygiene products other than toilet paper and no other waste may be disposed of.
The cruise line asks for your understanding that the perception of engine, driving, wave and voltage noises as well as vibrations is unavoidable in some places on the ship due to the structural flexibility of the ships.Near service facilities, e.g.outdoor deck/sundeck, restaurants and bars, there may also be a certain amount of noise. Some of the sea view cabins have portholes. In some sea view cabins the view may be obstructed or obscured by lifeboats or a steel wall. Some cabins are equipped with Pullman beds (wall and ceiling beds), the permissible load of which is 120 kg. Pullman beds are not suitable for children under 12 years old. Safety bars for the upper Pullman beds can be requested from reception if required (reservation possible via MyAIDA), as can baby cots for children up to 2 years old and bed rails for children aged 2 to 3 years (subject to availability).
Guests arriving individually are asked to enter their flight details in the ship manifest in the MyAIDA travel portal. This allows housekeeping to prepare your cabin in time for your arrival.
Kids and Teens
AIDA is a holiday paradise for the whole family. With the diversified range of onboard offers, AIDA is specially tailored to the needs of children and parents. Despite well-equipped hospitals, the treatment options for babies and small children on board are limited. Babies are welcome on board if they are at least six months old, on routes with three or more consecutive sea days, babies are subject to an increased minimum age of 12 months. If you would like to travel with a baby who is older than 6 months it must have complete vaccination  at the start of the cruise (according to the recommendation of the Standing Immunization Commission [STIKO] at the Robert Koch Institute). The recommended precautionary examinations must have already been carried out at the start of the cruise (according to the recommendation of the Federal Joint Committee [G-BA]).
Please note that you have the duty to supervise your children on board, ashore and when leaving the ship. The AIDA crew will take over supervision only during the designated program.
The cruise line points out that children under the age of 13 are only allowed to leave the ship when accompanied by a parent/legal guardian and may not be left on board without supervision.

Non-smoking protection
With regard to the health and well-being of our guests, all cabins and almost all public spaces of our ships are non-smoking areas. If you do not want to dispense with a cigarette, you can smoke for example on the cabin balconies and in the designated smoking areas. Please note that abard the AIDAperla and AIDAprima, smoking on the patio of selected cabins is prohibited. The enjoyment of electronic cigarettes is only very limited aboard our ships and is permitted only in areas approved for this purpose.
Roadstead ports
Road ports are anchorages in front of the actual port. These are marked in the catalog through an anchor symbol. However, it is also possible that the ships during individul landings go to the road at short notice. Due to weather conditions, the tender traffic (shore leave with the help of smaller boats) can be restricted or adjusted. The decision about it is taken by the competent authorities and the captain.
Restaurants
Enjoy the great culinary variety aboard the AIDA. The buffet restaurants invite you to discover the best kitchens in the world - selected drinks are included here with the main meals. At our specialty restaurants the food is included in the travel price, beverages at an extra charge. At our à la carte restaurants, you can enjoy food and drinks at an additional cost. Children up to  including 12 eat free of charge various dishes from the children menu except on holidays.
Via MyAIDA you have the option to reserve a table for selected restaurants. For optimal preparation of our food offer, please inform us before the start of the journeyl about dietary and light food requests. In order to provide you with a complete enjoyment experience, all restaurants are non-smoking areas.
Please do not attend the restaurants and bars in bathing, sportswear or barefoot. The gentlemen are asked to wear long trousers in the evening. Please do not take any food and drink from our restaurants. On the basis of a legal requirement, AIDA is obligated to state that the consumption of raw or semi-cooked meat, fish and egg dishes may pose a health risk.
Safety
The safety of the guests is an absolute priority for Aida. Each AIDA ship is built according to the latest safety-related findings and has state-of-the-art life-saving equipment. The crew is trained according to a safety management system constantly on board and on shore. Notes: If an emergency situation arises, there is only one signal that matters to you: This is the signal for the general alarm - 7 short beeps and 1 long beep. When you hear this signal, please stay calm and go with your lifejacket, warm clothing, sturdy footwear and possibly needed medication to your assembly point, also called the sample station. Your life jacket can be found in the wardrobe in your cabin. Refer to the safety information on the inside of your cabin door for the assigned assembly point, then follow the escape route markings in the corridors and staircases. Please familiarize yourself thoroughly with all safety instructions and the structural design of the ship on the day of arrival.
Explore the way from your cabin to your rendezvous and try on your lifejacket. All children 2 to 12 years will receive a safety wristband in their cabin at the start of the journey, which will show the assembly point and must therefore be worn throughout the journey. In case of loss or damage please contact the reception or the Kids Club. Children's rescue vests are automatically delivered to the cabins. If this is not the case, please contact reception so you can provide a childrearing vest for each child. Guests over 140 kg and guests with reduced mobility will also be asked to register at the front desk. In general, a sea rescue drill takes place before the first departure of the ship. This complies with international regulations. All guests are required to participate. This also applies to experienced AIDA travelers and passengers on their connecting journey. During the exercise, you will receive more information on fire safety and safety-conscious behavior on board.
TV-Team
During the journey, photographs or sound recordings can be made in the public areas of the ship by AIDA Cruises or on its behalf. AIDA Cruises will point out in the "AIDA Today" daily program during which events and trips in addition to photographs, sound and image recordings take place. (see camera icons in the daily program). The guest agrees to the preparation and processing of these photographs or recordings. If you do not wish to be photographed or filmed, please report this to the camera crew or other AIDA Cruises employees. AIDA Cruises will present the photos on board as well as, if necessary, on the internet and offer them for purchase by the guests. The audio and video recordings are transmitted live and / or delayed during the journey via the ship TV, as well as used for the production of the travel film which the guests of the respective trip can purchase on board or on the Internet . 

Documents and papers

Country currency
Information abut the respective currencies and daily exchange rates can be obtained from your bank. In many countries of the destination areas Asia, the Caribbean and Central America, you can also pay in US dollars. The cruise line generally recommends that you take a common credit card.
Customs regulations
Items intended for the personal needs of the traveler, such as clothes, shoes, jewelery, camera, video camera, etc., can usually be carried free of customs duties. Transportation  and importation of weapons, ammunition, drugs, explosive / fire hazardous objects, such as, in particular, fireworks, as well as juvenile or unconstitutional media is prohibited. In addition, imports of fresh food (e.g.fruit, vegetables, meat and sausage) are prohibited in many countries. Please note that it is strictly forbidden to introduce products made from protected animal and plant species. Protected animals and plants as well as products made from them are offered for sale in many countries. Caution is also needed when collecting on the beach: threatened species could be among them. Partly also antiques or cultural objects are affected by an import or export ban. Please do not contribute to illicit and harmful trade and inform yourself in time. In the event of a breach of the relevant customs or import / export regulations, serious sanctions such as customs confiscation, police or high fines threaten.
Caution: papers from street vendors' are not valid. The purchase of counterfeit branded items such as watches, computers, software, clothing etc. as well as their import into Germany and / or Austria is forbidden for copyright reasons. The cruise line would like to point out that each guest is responsible for compliance with the applicable foreign exchange, customs or import / export regulations. Please inform yourself in due time about the exchange, customs or import / export regulations that apply to you.
Please note that in addition to the customs regulations listed here, other customs requirements may have to be considered. Please inquire about the possible additions or daily updated changes.

THE FOLLOWING SPECIAL REGULATIONS S APPLY FOR ENTRY TO GERMANY AND AUSTRIA:
Entry from non-EU countries for German and Austrian citizens. Travelers who are at least 17 years of age may carry duty-free 200 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos or 50 cigars or 250 g of smoking tobacco, 1 l of spirits with an alcohol content of more than 22% by volume or undiluted ethyl alcohol with an alcohol content of 80% by volume or more than 2 liters of alcohol with an alcoholic strength of  mostly 22% by volume or a proportionate combination of these products and 4 liters of non-foaming wines and 16 liters of beer as well as medicinal products which correspond to the personal requirements. In the case of other goods (e.g. clothing), a duty-free limit of up to € 430 generally applies.

Entry from EU countries for German citizens
The following reference quantities apply for individual use
• Tobacco products: 800 cigarettes, 400 cigarillos (cigars with a maximum weight of 3 g), 200 cigars, 1,000 g of smoked tobacco
• Alcoholic beverages: 10 l spirits, 10 l alcoholic sweet drinks (alcopops), 20 l so called intermediate products (e.g. Campari, Port wine, Madeira and Sherry), 60 l sparkling wine, 110 l beer
• Coffee: 10 kg

Entry from EU countries for Austrian citizens
The following reference quantities apply for individual use
• Tobacco products: 800 cigarettes, 400 cigarillos (cigars with a maximum weight of 3 g), 200 cigars, 1,000 g of smoked tobacco
• Alcoholic beverages: 10 l spirits, 20 l alcohol such as beer, sparkling wine or wine up to 22 vol.%, 90 l wine (60 l sparkling wine), 110 l beer
By way of derogation from these sets, the following special arrangements apply:
For cigarettes that you bring in your luggage from Bulgaria, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania or Hungary to Austria, a duty-free tax allowance of 300 pieces has been in effect since March 1, 2014. For those cigarettes, which you carry beyond this allowance, you must register and pay the tobacco tax to the Customs Office immediately (verbally).
