Before the cruise

Can I take a cruise if I'm pregnant?
Royal Caribbean International is unable to accommodate guests who are more than 24 weeks pregnant while on a cruise. The guests concerned and their treating physicians should be aware that there are no gynecologists on board and that unstable and inadequately monitored pregnancies are potentially life-threatening, particularly if appropriate emergency medical care is not provided. Guests may spend several days at sea without access to a hospital and/or specialist. Since the itinerary is not within the United States, the availability of specialized shore-based facilities can be an issue. All guests must complete the General Health Questionnaire prior to arrival or at the pier, certifying that they are less than 24 weeks pregnant.
Does Royal Caribbean provide transfers or shuttles to and from the airport?
Yes, all ports offer transfer services to and from the airport for an additional fee. If you buy your airline tickets with ChoiceAir, you can find optional cruise transfers on the Guest Requests page.If you have not received your transfer vouchers with your travel documents, you will be on the manifest and will be met at your arrival airport by one of the representatives.
Safety Drill
An  assembly meetingl is a mandatory safety drill designed to ensure that all guests and crew are aware of the location (the assembly station) where everyone is to report in the unlikely event of an emergency. Additional safety information (e.g. how to put on a life jacket) is given during this exercise. The safety drill is mandatory under Coast Guard regulations and all guests, even if they have previously traveled with us, are required to attend. If your health condition makes it difficult for you to stand, please let the crew know so they can make your participation in this exercise as comfortable as possible. The International Convention of Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) regulations require that safety drills be conducted within 24 hours of a ship's departure from the port of embarkation. The guest gathering exercise on ships in the fleet must be completed 30 to 60 minutes prior to departure on the day of embarkation. The guest rescue drill announcements will be in English or the official language of the ship. If there are numerous non-English speaking guests on board, announcements will also be made in other languages. On some voyages, announcements may be made in the language of the majority of guests followed by English and other major languages.Guests are not allowed to bring life jackets to the rally. The procedure instructs guests to proceed directly to their assembly stations in the unlikely event of an emergency when they hear the emergency signal. This reduces the risk of cross traffic and improves response times at assembly points as guests do not have to return to their cabins to retrieve their lifejackets when they are in a different part of the ship. Crew members will hand out life jackets to guests at the assembly points. In the unlikely event of an emergency, one of the most important measures on board is to be able to identify everyone on board. This procedure makes this possible.
What kind of clothes should be taken?
What clothing is appropriate on board depends on the location and the occasion. Below are some dress code guidelines, sorted by occasion.

Casual: You are on vacation – relax! Jeans, polo shirts, light sundresses and blouses are appropriate here. Please restrict swimwear to the pool deck. Shorts can be worn at breakfast and lunch.

Smart Casual: This is a step up from your regular dinner attire. Here you should wear collar shirt, dress, skirt and blouse or pant suit. Jackets, sports jackets and blazers can also be worn.

Formal: In the evening, ladies and gentlemen should dress up – suit and tie, tuxedo, cocktail or evening dress. One to three gala evenings take place on a voyage - you decide for yourself on the ship.

Gala evening:
3/4/5 night cruises - usually on day 2
6-night cruises - usually days on 2 and 5
7-night cruises – usually day 2 and 6
On the Oasis and Allure on the western routes on days 2 and 5 and on the eastern routes on days 2 and 6.
On longer cruises
A gala evening will not be offered on any of the Empress of the Seas currently scheduled cruises.

During the cruise

Board language / Guest Service
Royal Caribbean International is a global brand with cruises all over the world. The main language on board is English. However, another language may be spoken more frequently on Culturally Enriching Cruises, such as Mandarin on cruises departing from China. However, all staff on board are able to assist you in English.
Is smoking allowed on board?
Indoor smoking is permitted in the Casino, the cigar clubs on Freedom and Voyager Class ships, and one designated smoking venue on ships sailing from Chinese homeports.Cigarette, cigar, e-cigarette and pipe smoking is permitted in designated outdoor areas.

Online Check-in
At this time, the Royal Caribbean app isn’t available for guests sailing on Wonder of the SeasSM out of Rome. As a result, these are some changes to your check-in process and onboard experience:
  • The wellness screening and Health Questionnaire will be completed at check-in, so please arrive to the terminal at the arrival time that’s printed on your SetSail Pass
  •  Your safety briefing will be conducted once you make it onboard the ship — our staff will direct you to your assembly station to complete the safety briefing
  • You can reserve shows and make your dining reservations once you’re onboard via your stateroom phone
  • Activities will be published in the Cruise Compass delivered to your stateroom daily
  • We will provide you with printed menus at all our dining venues instead of QR codes.

When do I have to disembark a Royal Caribbean cruise ship?
On the last morning of the cruise, in most countries, all guests must disembark before guests on the next voyage can board. This time is usually between 10.00 and 11.00. On each ship you will receive a flyer with the exact details for the respective ship and port. Royal Caribbean offers two disembarkation options: Regular Disembarkation and Express Departure.
Transfers are available for guests who have purchased flight, hotel or cruise tour packages through Royal Caribbean. If you have booked your flight and hotel yourself, you must arrange your own transfer to the airport and/or hotel. For cruise-only guests, Royal Connections offers a transfer service. For more information, please contact your travel advisor or Customer Service Department.
When are the shore excursions booked and paid?
Royal Caribbean excursions include:

Adventure tours: are you looking for real adventures? Then here's what awaits you: horseback riding, mountain biking, parasailing, jungle treks and 4x4 rides are just a few examples of the activities available to you.

Beach and sea activities - everything from a lazy day on a secluded beach to active adventures like white water rafting can be found here. Choose from glass-bottom boat tours, romantic sunset cruises, kayaking and more.

Food tours: whether it's tapas tasting in Spain, a pub crawl in Ireland, salmon eating in Alaska, or one of our many food tours, these excursions allow you to learn about a country's culture through its cuisine.

Sightseeing flight: Sightseeing from the air gives you a completely new view of the world. Fly high above exotic waterfalls or fly over Alaskan ice fields by a helicopter. This type of sightseeing cannot be compared to anything else.

Golf: work on your handicap at amazing courses like Cozumel Country Club, Bermuda's Belmont Hills Golf Club or the St. Thomas Mahogany Run Golf Course.

Shows & Entertainment: discover world-famous museums or relax with world-class entertainment programs. See folk dances in Alaska, real mariachi bands in Mexico, and more.

Sightseeing and/or city tours: explore the port cities along your cruise with one of our sightseeing and city tours. Whether you want a guided tour or prefer to explore on your own, we have something for guests of all ages and interests.

Snorkeling and diving tours: explore the underwater world. Learn the basics of scuba diving or sign up as a certified diver for an advanced dive. Scuba diving not for you? Then try 'Snuba', a shallow water diving system, or don a special diving helmet and go sea trekking.

Wilderness and wildlife tours: see dolphins, manatees, moose, bears, caribou or monkeys up close. We offer tours where you can see these and other animals in their natural environment. There are also tours of animal experience centers.

What happens if I get sick aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise ship?
Health problems of guests and crew members during the cruise can be promptly clarified by medical staff, either through a visit to the cabin or via video teleconsultation. A variety of tests can be performed in the medical laboratory on board. This is just one of the options offered by our expanded medical center. To protect the health of the general public on board, isolation and/or quarantine may be required to avoid contact with anyone who has or may have a contagious disease. Guests who have been diagnosed with a contagious disease by a member of the onboard medical staff are required to isolate themselves onboard for a period of time - until they can safely disembark at a port of call and return home via private transportation, or until the cruise ends in the home port where it began. Guests who meet close contact criteria must comply with required quarantine and/or testing requirements based on their vaccination status.Guests who require isolation due to a diagnosed contagious disease will remain in their cabin or will be transferred to a cabin near the medical center where, subject to availability, medical staff and Guest Services staff will check on them regularly. Services such as room service and Wi-Fi are provided free of charge.

- USD 18.50 per person and cruise day for inside, outside and balcony staterooms as well as Junior Suites
- USD 21.00 per person and cruise day for suites
for stateroom attendant and waiter.
In case you choose the cruise fare without the included gratuities, you will find on board a form in your stateroom, which allows you to conveniently pay gratuities that you wish to grant voluntarily, via your onboard account.
You can fill out this form, if you would like to participate in the voluntary gratuity program.
Gratuities will not be automatically added to your account, unless you fill out and sign this form.

For all drinks and spa treatments purchased on board, a service charge of 18 % will be added.

Please note that the gratuity recommendation (gratuity regulation) as well the service charge regulation do not automatically become part of the contract, but only after a separate confirmation by the consumer (customer). Therefore, prior to booking the voyage, the consent of the consumer (customer) is requested.
