Before the cruise

General information
The travel conditions of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, a company of TUI Cruises GmbH, apply to all cruises mentioned. All information is correct at the time of printing, supersedes all previous publications and may be subject to change. The travel confirmation is decisive.
Medical services
All three ships have a modern ship hospital (deck 3) under the direction of an experienced ship doctor. Guests who are undergoing medical treatment should contact the ship doctor immediately after embarkation. Please be sure to take any medication you need with you in your hand luggage (in an amount that is sufficient for the entire cruise.
The treatment of seasickness is fee based if you use medical services. If required, guests are offered thrombosis prophylaxis on board (subject to a charge).
Treatment on board is treatment equivalent to visiting a doctor abroad (Malta flag state). German fee guidelines and German health insurance do not apply on board. It is therefore advisable to take out private travel health insurance.
Payment is made by boarding card, billing by insurance card is not possible. Hapag-Lloyd Cruises cannot accept liability for the  full reimbursement of the treatment by your respective personal health insurance.
Extensive medical treatment on board is only possible to a limited extent. For example, the equipment of the onboard hospital is not specifically designed for the care of babies and small children. In addition, the onboard pharmacy is stocked with a range of products for general illnesses and for initial/emergency treatment. In the event of a medical emergency, the patient will be disembarked and taken to a nearby hospital on land. The associated costs are to be borne by the patient. Guests requiring medical treatment should carry their medical records with them.

Bathrobe/-slipper
For each guest in the cabin / suite there is a bathrobe and slippers as well as bamboo flip flops.

Expedition equipment
If the navigation area and the shore leave require it, you can rent rubber boots in sizes 33 - 52 aboard the ships.
For expeditions to extreme areas such as the Arctic and Antarctica, a warm parka in sizes XS – XXXL is available on loan for the duration of the cruise. Snorkel gear, stand-up paddleboards, fishing rods, snowshoes and kayaks (the latter for an additional charge) are available for rent on board, as well as Nordic walking poles and binoculars in every cabin/suite.

Itinerary changes
Changes to the itinerary due to technical reasons or unforeseeable events beyond our control are possible despite the most careful route planning. These include, for example, official permits and the local weather and ice conditions. Any changes are made in the interest of your safety. Weather and ice conditions can make it difficult or impossible to comply with the schedule, as well as landing with the Zodiacs. Your ship management always strives to offer you the best possible alternative in such cases.
Guests with mobility restrictions
Cruises with the new expedition class are generally not suitable for guests with mobility restrictions. Please note that a large number of planned landings with the Zodiacs and also the shore activities require a high level of physical fitness, so that participation can only be guaranteed if there are no mobility restrictions.
The ships each have a cabin that is barrier-free (cabin 404). Nevertheless, the cruise line strongly recommends that you travel together with a responsible assistant because due to the special processes aboard a ship, support is not possible. Certain groups of people can only travel together with an assistant.
Please bring your own standard-sized wheelchair or other medical equipment if you need it.
Electric wheelchairs and service dogs can unfortunately not be taken along.
Please note that participating in shore activities and disembarking with zodiacs (depending on the weather) may prove impossible for guests with physical disabilities.
The cruise line reserves the right to make participation in group activities dependent on the fact that the complete activity be carried out without external help. Unfortunately, guests who are dependent on a wheelchair cannot be transported by the Zodiac.
Disembarking by tender boats (when the ship is at anchor) is also dependent on the weather and cannot always be guaranteed. In order for you to have a relaxing cruise with a smooth process, please inform the cruise line of the type of mobility restriction before booking and clarify whether your individual needs can be met.
Cabins with connecting door
There are balcony cabins on Deck 6 and Deck 7, each of which can be connected to the neighboring cabin via a connecting door (cabins 608/610 and 609/611). The HANSEATIC nature and HANSEATIC inspiration also have the following cabins/suites: 646/648 and 647/649 (Deck 6) and 734/736 and 735/737 (Deck 7).
Dress code
a) On board
On an expedition, everything revolves around the experience of nature and the discovery atmosphere is sporty-relaxed. Enjoy as you wish, but please do not go in swim attire at the restaurants, bars and lounges for the sake of all guests. Sporty-elegant is the motto for the evening dinner, that means at the HANSEATIC Restaurant and at the specialty restaurant jackets and long trousers are welcome. At the Lido restaurant there is also a casual dress recommendation in the evening. Jacket and tie are recommended for the welcome and
farewell evening but are not mandatory.

b) On land
On land you dress comfortably and practically, adapted to the respective travel area. You need solid, flat shoes in any case - whether for the ship or on land. In order to protect yourself against splashing water in the Zodiac, please bring rain pants or something similar.Waterproof trousers/over-trousers with, if possible without, Velcro fasteners (especially on expeditions in polar regions, we recommend not using Velcro fasteners in order to avoid flora and fauna being carried away to non-native regions).
A waterproof protective bag is helpful for your smartphone / photo equipment. On a warm water route, please remember closed stable swim shoes or waterproof trekking sandals, in which you can walk well and safely and which are also essential for the Zodiac.

Communication on board (Internet, e-mail, telephone)
You have direct Internet access in your cabin/suite and throughout the ship via your private mobile device. If required, you can borrow a tablet from reception free of charge (limited availability, advance reservation not possible). Internet use is free for one hour per guest per day. You can also access your personal e-mail inbox, which we set up for you free of charge for the duration of the cruise with your own address on board, via your private mobile device or rental tablet. You will find your personal e-mail address on your travel confirmation.
When telephoning via the "landline" from your cabin/suite, the connection is established via satellite, provided satellite reception is possible. Please note that dialing a telephone/fax number via satellite is always subject to a charge for the caller, this also applies to dialing the ship's number from land.Mobile telephony at sea is also possible in areas where your mobile phone provider can usually no longer provide a network (outside the 12-mile zone or in the EU usually from 2 miles). The charges depend on your mobile phone contract, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises has no influence on this. If you are interested, please ask your mobile phone provider about the costs before you travel
.
Basically, the e-mail, Internet and telephone connection depends on the satellite and cannot always be guaranteed due to the weather and the ship's position, especially in extremely northern and southern cruising areas. In extreme regions, such as the Arctic and Antarctic, the internet, e-mail and telephone may be unavailable for days due to satellites.

Food intolerances
Please inform the cruise line directly at the time of booking of any special requests regarding a food intolerance/allergy or a vegetarian/vegan diet. Especially in remote extreme areas, the logistics/supply of the ship is a major challenge and only possible to a limited extent. Timely information is therefore important. Otherwise, unfortunately, implementation on board cannot be guaranteed.
Voltage
You will find 220V (50Hz) AC power outlets  in your cabin / suite. On the HANSEATIC inspiration, there are also sockets for 110 V (60 Hz) devices in the cabins / suites. Hapag Lloyd Cruises generally recommends carrying a travel plug for different connections. For safety reasons, hot water heaters, hair straighteners and irons should not be plugged in in the cabins.
Gratuities
Gratuities are not mandatory on board. Each guest is free to give a gratuity for a particularly good service. If you would like to give something to the entire crew, please donate to the crew fund at reception.

During the cruise

Beds
All cabins / suites have a double bed, which we can also be separated into two separate single beds (90 x 200 cm) upon request. Please inform the travel agency in good time before departure. The sleeping area varies from approx. 100 x 210 cm (Grand Suite) to 100 x 200 cm (Junior Suite) to 90 x 200 cm (outside cabin, panorama cabin, French balcony cabin and balcony cabin). All junior and grand suites also have a sofa bed (90 x 200 cm).
Library
Do you need holiday reading? You can borrow a book on board for the duration of your cruise. You will find our lending library in the Observation Lounge (Deck 8), stocked with a selection of current fiction, travel literature and information on the sailing area. When the book is finished or the cruise comes to an end, we ask you to return it to the library.
Boutique
Treat yourself and others with a tasteful souvenir and browse through the wide range of the boutique on board (Deck 4, behind the HanseAtrium). In addition to jewelry, perfume and accessories, the offer also includes practical daily items.
The opening times can be found in the daily program.

Bridge
The ship's bridge is a very sensitive space due to its outstanding importance as control center for nautical and technical processes. For this reason, it is not publicly available according to international regulations. But the cruise line will gladly give you the opportunity to visit the bridge, as far as nautical interests or local regulations of the respective coastal countries do not oppose this.
Drones
The private use of drones is generally not permitted onboard he expedition ships This applies to both the sailing time and the lay time in the port as well as at landing points in remote regions. In polar areas such as Antarctica and the Arctic, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises attaches great importance to compliance with international agreements to protect sensitive nature and, in particular, wildlife. Therefore, private use of drones is strictly prohibited in these areas, even on land. In other regions of the world, any use of drones on land is subject to the relevant authorities, who have to explicitly approve this.
These applications must be made individually by the passenger and without Hapag-Lloyd Cruises as intermediary. In addition to a drone license, which the users must obtain in their country of origin, the respective approval must be shown at all times. Please take these instructions seriously, because passengers who violate these regulations and authorization requirements are liable to prosecution.
Experts / lectures
Skilled experts who are glad to answer your questions about the sailing area accompany each journey. With exciting lectures, pictures and presentations, during discussions and in a personal conversation, they will provide you with well-founded background information about your travel destinations. Zodiac landings, walks and hikes will be accompanied by our experts. The lectures will take place on the HanseAtrium (Deck 4) and will be broadcast live and recorded in each cabin / suite.
Elevator
The various decks on the ship are connected by two elevators. Deck 9 and the Marina can only be reached on foot.
TV and film program
You receive the program from the region where the ship is currently located via satellite. A selection of documentaries and films is available to you via the infotainment system, which you can call up directly and individually. In extreme areas, such as the Northeast and Northwest Passage, Arctic and Antarctic, TV reception may be unavailable for days due to satellites.
Photographer
Simply take unforgettable moments with home: a professional photographer and a filmmaker on board will capture your journey. Take a look at the photo / film service (Deck 4), which also offers you various services / products for your own pictures and films (fee-based).
Cabin service
A diverse breakfast offer and a variety of dishes are available as part of the 24-hour cabin service. A coffee machine is available in your cabin/suite for your individual coffee enjoyment. The cruise line provides tea drinkers a suitable alternative.
Mini bar
Non-alcoholic drinks are offered to you free of charge in the daily replenished minibar in the cabins/suites.In the Junior Suites and Grand Suites you can also enjoy a selection of fine spirits free of charge. If you would like to order other drinks, please contact your cabin stewardess. The costs will be charged to your onboard account.
News /newspaper
Depending on the satellite reception, you will receive daily updated newspapers with the most important news from all over the world. In addition, we offer (depending on the satellite) the daily journey / day themes of the ARD about four hours after broadcasting in Germany.
You can also use infotainment to load various international newspapers and magazines onto your mobile device (fee-based service, also dependent on satellite reception).
Mail
In all ports where this is possible, your postcards and letters will be forwarded by the reception. Your onboard account will be charged with the respective fees.
Smoking
Smoking is only permitted indoors in the InvisibleLounge (Deck 4). Outside on deck there is a designated smoking area on the port side near the pool. Smoking is also permitted on the private balcony/porch of your cabin/suite. Please use the ashtray provided. Please only smoke pipes, cigarillos and cigars in the InvisibleLounge.
Restaurant
Generously planned, three restaurants spoil you with different culinary themes. The dining times are coordinated with the excursions and landings taking place and therefore vary from day to day. Please refer to the daily program for details. The current evening menus can be found in the infotainment system.

Stabilizers
All three ships are equipped with a modern stabilizer system. The roll movement of the ship in lateral swell / rough sea can thus be weakened.
Tender and Zodiac service
In all ports, where the ships are not at the pier but lie in the roads, disembarkation takes place by the ship's own tender boats or by motorized inflatable boats (Zodiacs). In some ports the cruise line will use external tender boats due to official orders.

On board there is a fee-based laundry, dry cleaning and ironing service.

Documents and papers

Vaccination, entry and visa requirements
The information given here regarding the valid vaccination, entry and visa requirements are correct at the time of printing (subject to change). These notes and regulations apply only to citizens of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Citizens of other countries are kindly requested to check with their travel agent or consulate or embassy upon booking. to inquire about the regulations that apply to them These notes refer to the cruise including the arrival and departure specified in our catalog as well as the pre- and post-cruise programs on our website. As some of the required visas have a limited length or visa requirements may change, before applying, we would ask you to wait for the travel information that you receive about three months before the start of your cruise.

General information about the vaccination regulations

• Travelers should find out about infection and vaccination as well as other prophylactic measures in good time; if necessary, medical advice should be obtained on thrombosis and other health risks as well as vaccination intolerance. Reference is made to general information, in particular from the health authorities, doctors experienced in travel medicine, tropical medicine specialists, travel medicine information services or the Federal Center for Health Education.
• In principle, vaccination against tetanus, diphtheria and polio should be checked and, if necessary, refreshed. For more vaccination recommendations (e.g. hepatitis A, malaria, TBE tick vaccination) please contact your doctor well in advance of your cruise.
• Vaccination against yellow fever must be taken at least ten days before entering the country that requires yellow fever vaccination and must be entered in the vaccination card. Otherwise, entry will be denied.
Even though the World Health Organization (WHO) has recently stated that a single dose of vaccine is sufficient to protect against yellow fever for life, this is contrary to the regulations in the respective countries, which continue to require boosters every ten years. The national legislation is binding for these cases and legally takes precedence over the WHO recommendation. The German STIKO also currently recommends a one-time booster vaccination after ten years.
If you cannot prove that you have been vaccinated against yellow fever, embarkation on board is not possible. In special circumstances, a certificate of intolerance to vaccinations may be sufficient. However, the cruise line cannot guarantee that this will be accepted by the local authorities in individual cases. If you have been to a yellow fever endemic area prior to your cruise, you are strongly advised to carry proof of your yellow fever vaccination with you and present it on board if requested by the authorities.
• In the South Seas region there are increasing vaccination regulations, compliance with which is a prerequisite for entry. In particular, vaccination against measles is increasingly required. Before you leave, please check the applicable vaccination regulations and your vaccinations. Please note that there must be at least four weeks between the first and second measles vaccination. The second vaccination must be taken at least 15 days before entering the country that requires measles vaccination and entered in the vaccination card. Otherwise, entry will be denied. Exceptions to this are children under 6 months, pregnant women and people who can prove a contraindication to measles vaccination by means of a medical certificate.

General information on entry and visa regulations
• In general – unless otherwise stated – a valid passport or children's passport is required, which must be valid for at least six months more after the end of the cruise.
• In order to travel to and from some countries (particularly outside Western Europe), your passport must have two blank pages facing each country. Therefore, please check in good time whether your passport meets these requirements for your booked cruise.
• Many countries have special entry requirements for minors, especially if they are not traveling with their parents (but, for example, with their grandparents) or with only one parent. For example, written parental consent and/or an international birth certificate are required. These documents must be written and certified in at least English, but often also in the language of the respective travel destination.
• Entry and visa fees, if any, are not included in the travel price.
• Please inquire at your travel agency about the current entry requirements for the destination countries of your cruise. Your travel agency will be glad to help you obtain the necessary individual visas.

Note 1
(Group) visa upon arrival of the ship or upon entry, may be subject to a fee.

Note 2
You need an entry permit, which must be applied for before the cruise and is issued in the form of an electronic visa (ETA),possibly subject to a fee. You can find more information on this on the Internet and at your travel agency.

Note 3
Cruises to Antarctica leads to an area far away from civilization and therefore without a medical supply network. For this reason, they are subject to an internal approval process in which all guests must have their doctor fill out a medical questionnaire and send it back to Hapag-Lloyd Cruises. You will receive this questionnaire together with the travel information, which will be sent to you approximately three months before the start of your cruise. If necessary, you should consult a doctor before booking your cruise.

Note 4
The identity card  is sufficient for entry.

Note 5
All U.S. travelers who do not require a visa under the Visa Waiver Program must register online with the US Department of Homeland Security and apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization at least 72 hours prior to the cruise. A fee will be charged for processing the application. In addition to the electronic travel authorization, you need a passport with biometric data in the form of a chip in order to enter the USA without a visa. Non-electronic passports, such as short-term passport replacements, do not entitle you to enter the United States visa-free; in this case you need a US visa. Children (from birth) are also affected by the regulation. Children need their own European passport. Entry with a child's passport/ID or an entry in the parents' passport is not possible. Upon entry, a photograph and fingerprints of each guest are registered. Persons who have stayed in Iran, Iraq, North Korea, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Yemen or Somalia after March 1st, 2011 are usually excluded from the simplified visa-free entry and require a regular visa to enter the USA.
Even travelers who have visited Cuba in the past can no longer enter the USA with an ESTA, but must apply for a visa. Please contact the U.S. consular office responsible for you on this matter well in advance of your cruise.

Note 6
Individual visa required (possibly also e-visa possible), subject to a fee.

Means of payment
